Job Description Job Summary The Staff Accountant provides accounting and analytical support to the finance department, executive management, and managers. The Staff Accountant ensures accurate, complete, and timely processing of accounting transactions with consistent application of accounting policies and procedures while seeking process improvements and standardization. Key Interactions Employees, Executive Leadership, Senior Client Leadership, Mariners, Industry Associations, and 3rd party vendors Job Responsibilities, Required Knowledge, Skills • Ability to always communicate effectively and professionally to work with various departments, communicate financial information clearly, and maintain positive relationships., • Ability to develop and maintain desk procedures as needed., • Ability to familiarize yourself with company documents including policies and procedures and the company Towing Management Systems (T.S.M.S)., • Ability to lead financial projects effectively, identifying all moving parts, no matter how minute, and synthesizing all information into a workable productive plan to accomplish tasks., • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters and areas of the organization., • Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and perform meticulous self-review of work products for quality in a dynamic environment., • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions., • Ability to understand relevant business issues and the organization's operating procedures and connect these to finance work priorities., • Ability to work independently and perform other duties and business analysis as assigned., • Apply in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and adhere to all company policies and procedures., • Apply meticulous attention to detail through observation, analysis, and logic to analyze financial results, reconcile accounts and resolve complex finance issues that have implications beyond one’s own area., • Assist Controller in the application of GAAP, internal accounting controls, procedures, and best practices in support of a structured financial control environment., • Demonstrate proven financial acumen to seek opportunities for standardization and automation., • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies in financial data and propose effective solutions to ensure accuracy and compliance with laws and regulations., • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills including self-awareness and the ability to deal professionally with others and always make professional judgments., • Facilitate internal and external audit needs., • Manage multiple deadlines and respond quickly to management requests for ad hoc financial information while maintaining service standards., • Must be a team player and support the mission, vision, and goals of the company and the finance department., • Perform the month-end and year-end financial period close process including preparation of journal entries to ensure reliability and accuracy., • Prepare financial statements, reporting packages, and regulatory reporting documents timely and accurately., • Proficient in accounting software and systems to streamline the accounting process and increase productivity., • Proven ability to troubleshoot, access options, test resolutions, and escalate issues as needed., • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables., • An advanced degree in accounting is required., • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills., • CPA certification or actively taking the CPA exam in pursuit of their CPA is preferred., • Excellent interpersonal skills., • Hands-on experience with accounting ERP software packages., • Must have three (3) or more years of verifiable experience in a finance/accounting role., • Working experience in a public accounting firm is preferred., • Requires an active and valid driver's license Working Conditions • Work hours will be assigned based on business needs however, work hours will typically be Monday-Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on site. By request from the department manager or department director. Work hours may include irregular hours including weekends, holidays, and after-hours to assist in completing special tasks or assignments., • Out-of-regional travel may be required to attend training, seminars, or work-related events, • Work will be performed in the office and in the field; this is not a remote position. Special Projects • Assist the management and or executive team when requested to complete special projects and complete all assignments within a negotiated time frame established by the Controller, • Completion of other duties as assigned by the Controller as it relates to the program and position Behavioral Competencies Advise / Delegate • Ability to clearly and comfortably delegate important tasks and decisions., • Ability to discuss department concerns with the Accounting Manager, Controller and CFO., • Broadly shares both responsibility and accountability., • The candidate is comfortable with goal setting and working in a team setting., • The candidate must be able to prioritize and complete tasks promptly., • The candidate can work autonomously and as part of a team.
