Job Description The Field Operations Director is responsible for overseeing all on-site field activities across multiple electrical construction projects. This role leads the company’s field workforce, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project goals. Responsibilities include supervising field leadership, coordinating resources, driving quality, and fostering strong customer relationships. The Field Operations Director works closely with the President and Operations Director to align field operations with business objectives and ensure operational excellence on all job sites. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES · Field Standards & Process Development: Create and continuously improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for field operations including labor deployment, equipment usage, reporting protocols, and jobsite workflows. · Site Operations: Primary responsibility for all field operations, supervising & coordinating job site activities, materials, tools equipment and subcontractor personnel across multiple projects. · Workforce Hiring, Training & Development: Hire and develop qualified field workers. Design and oversee training programs for field leadership (foremen, superintendents) and field workers, including onboarding, technical certifications, safety compliance, and performance management. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, upskilling, and cross-training. · Labor Forecasting & Resource Planning: Collaborate with Operations Director and Project Managers to project labor needs across current and upcoming projects. Work with field leadership to align crews to projects based on skills, workload, and timelines. · Safety Program Oversight: In partnership with the Safety Manager, develop and enforce company-wide safety policies. Review incident trends, lead corrective action planning, and ensure buy-in from site leadership. Evaluate site safety performance and hold leaders accountable to company benchmarks. · Quality Assurance Leadership: Define quality expectations and implement standard inspection and closeout procedures for all projects. Support superintendents in maintaining first-pass inspection rates and create feedback loops to address recurring quality issues across job sites. · Technology & Reporting Systems: Identify and implement field technologies (e.g., time tracking, daily reporting, equipment management) to improve efficiency and visibility. Train field leadership in adoption and usage. Review data to identify trends and drive operational improvements. · Cross-Department Coordination: Serve as the link between field operations and project management, purchasing, and finance. Ensure project planning, scheduling, and planning decisions reflect field capabilities and constraints. Provide field input during preconstruction and scheduling meetings. · Subcontractor Oversight Framework: Develop standards and tools for managing subcontractor performance at the field level. Support superintendents in holding subcontractors accountable to scope, safety, and quality. · Client Representation: Represent Grasslands Electrical in key project meetings, walk-throughs, or client discussions when field expertise or escalation is needed. Ensure the company is viewed as professional, organized, and solution-oriented in every job. Participate in industry or networking events as specified by Grasslands management. · Organizational Improvement: Assess field operations performance company wide. Recommend and implement improvements to structure, staffing models, equipment deployment, or vendor utilization to reduce inefficiencies and support scalability. · Perform other strategic leadership duties as assigned by the President or Operations Director. QUALIFICATIONS · Minimum 15 years of progressive field leadership experience in large commercial electrical contracting within Educational, Municipal, and/or Healthcare industry markets · Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and MVR. · Valid Florida driver's license with clean driving record · Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish strongly preferred. · Demonstrated ability to supervise a large workforce across multiple job sites. · Experience holding field leadership accountable to performance, quality, and compliance standards. · Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality when managing sensitive information. · Willingness to lead and implement changes in standards, processes, and workforce practices. · Licensed Journeyman and/or Master Electrician EDUCATION · High school diploma required; technical training or electrical certifications preferred. · Combination of relevant education and field leadership experience will be considered. · Advanced degree(s) strongly preferred (e.g., Construction Management, MBA, etc.) · Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification strongly preferred. CORE COMPETENCIES · In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, construction methods, and relevant codes · Methodical thinker with experience in building scalable field operations systems · Strong leadership and coaching skills for managing superintendents and foremen. · Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and scopes of work. · Skilled in labor planning, forecasting, and jobsite resource coordination · Excellent verbal and written communication skills · Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) · Familiarity with construction software platforms · Comfortable using mobile apps and jobsite tech for scheduling, reporting, and time tracking. ACCOUNTABILITIES · Project Timeline Adherence: Ensure all field activities support project schedules and milestone targets. · Budget Compliance: Support field productivity goals and contribute to meeting project profitability targets. · Field Training & Development: Establish and maintain training standards that elevate field leadership capabilities, reduce performance variability, and promote internal advancement. · Quality Assurance: Maintain a high standard of workmanship with minimal rework or inspection failures. · Stakeholder Communication: Provide timely and accurate updates to clients and internal teams. POSITION REQUIRMENTS · Position requires extended hours, including early mornings and occasional weekends. · Must be available to travel to project sites across Central Florida (Orange, Seminole, Lake, Osceola Counties) as needed. · Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function of the job. PHYSICAL OR MENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS · Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. on a regular basis. · Capable of standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods on active job sites. · Must be comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. · Able to transition between fieldwork and office settings, including sitting for prolonged periods during meetings or administrative tasks.
