Job Description Summary Teacher Aide / Classroom Assistant (STE(AI)M™ Assistant) Kids Academy of Learning Excellence, powered by CORE 📍 601 Southlake Blvd, Richmond, VA 23236 Employment Type: W-2 Hourly Pay: Based on experience Kids Academy of Learning Excellence (KALE), powered by the CORE Foundation, is seeking Teacher Aides / Classroom Assistants to support our early childhood and STE(AI)M™ learning environments. This role is essential to maintaining classroom quality, safety, and Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) compliance while supporting innovation-driven instruction. Teacher Aides work closely with Lead Teachers to support daily routines, learning activities, and classroom operations across infant, toddler, preschool, and enrichment settings. Duties Supporting Lead Teachers / Classroom Support • Support Lead Teachers in implementing daily lesson plans, learning activities, and curriculum, including Abeka fundamentals and STE(AI)M™ programming., • Assist with lesson execution by preparing and organizing classroom materials, learning centers, and STE(AI)M tools (including robotics and technology when applicable)., • Reinforce classroom routines, structure, and age-appropriate guidance., • Support classroom setup, breakdown, organization, sanitization, and resetting of learning spaces throughout the day. Classroom Supervision and Child Care, • Provide active supervision of children during indoor and outdoor play, meals, rest time, and transitions to ensure safety and engagement., • Maintain constant visual and auditory supervision in accordance with VDOE ratio and safety standards., • Support classroom supervision under the direction of a Lead Teacher or qualified supervisory staff and shall not be left alone with children except as permitted by VDOE regulations and KALE policy., • Conduct daily health screenings upon child arrival as directed., • Assist with diapering, toileting, handwashing, feeding, and personal care needs appropriate to the classroom age group., • Strictly follow VDOE-approved diapering and toileting procedures, including proper handwashing and sanitization., • Observe children for signs of illness, injury, developmental concerns, or emotional distress and promptly report concerns to supervisory staff., • Model respectful, nurturing interactions that support social-emotional development, confidence, and character. Maintaining Safety, Cleanliness, and Learning Environment, • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom by following daily cleaning and sanitization procedures., • Execute daily sanitization protocols (three-step cleaning process) and follow safe food-handling practices for snack and meal service, including allergy awareness., • Maintain the “KALE Aesthetic” by organizing learning centers and properly storing, charging, and handling STE(AI)M tools., • Follow all center safety procedures, including headcounts, sign-in/out protocols, playground safety practices, and emergency procedures., • Adhere strictly to KALE’s Safe Sleep Policy, including placing infants on their backs to sleep, ensuring cribs are free of soft items, and maintaining constant visual supervision during rest periods., • Participate in fire, lockdown, and severe weather drills., • Report hazards, injuries, or incidents immediately according to KALE policy., • Follow all infection control procedures, including proper hand hygiene, PPE use when required, and illness exclusion protocols. Instructional Assistance / Whole-Child Support, • Support small-group and one-on-one learning experiences under the direction of the Lead Teacher., • Assist children with literacy, math readiness, arts, social-emotional learning, STE(AI)M™, robotics exposure, sensory play, and hands-on discovery., • Reinforce positive behavior supports and assist with de-escalation strategies as trained., • Refrain from all prohibited practices, including corporal punishment, humiliation, threats, isolation, withholding food or rest, or any form of physical or verbal abuse., • Encourage curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and kind peer interactions aligned with KALE’s whole-child approach. Communication, Documentation, and Professional Conduct, • Communicate professionally and respectfully with colleagues and administration., • Follow established lines of authority and escalate concerns through the Lead Teacher, Assistant Director, or Director as appropriate., • Assist with classroom documentation, child observations, and daily records as directed., • Ensure all documentation and digital entries are accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner in accordance with KALE and VDOE requirements., • Support family communication through Brightwheel or approved platforms., • Capture photos and updates using only KALE-issued devices in accordance with the Media Policy., • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and center operations. Compliance and Required Trainings, • Adhere to all VDOE regulations, licensing standards, and KALE policies., • Complete Virginia Health Safety Pre-Service Training prior to classroom assignment., • Serve as a Mandated Reporter as required by Virginia law., • Complete required professional development, including CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration Training (MAT) if applicable, annual Health Safety Updates, and CACFP Civil Rights training., • Report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with Virginia law and KALE policy.
