Position Summary Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director, Individual Giving plays a vital role in individual and major gifts fundraising efforts through donor engagement and stewardship, oversight of the annual fund, as well as leadership of Storm King’s highest level patron group, Storm King Council ($2,500-$25,000). The Associate Director manages a portfolio of major gifts supporters and works closely with the Director of Development and senior leadership to strengthen and increase support from individuals as they move through the donor pipeline. The Associate Director supervises a team of two, including the Membership Manager, who oversees the General Membership program, and the Individual Giving Assistant. The Associate Director will develop and execute strategy related to annual and long-term fundraising plans, as well as create and implement targeted and effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors. Collaborating with peers in the department and across the organization, the successful candidate will thoughtfully integrate individual giving initiatives with other organizational fundraising efforts, deepening donor support of and engagement with the organization. The Associate Director, Individual Giving responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Strategic Planning & Revenue Growth • In collaboration with the Director of Development, design and implement a comprehensive annual and long-term plan to increase the individual giving program, with a focus on moves management and growth of the major gifts pipeline of $2,500 and above., • Project, analyze, and achieve revenue growth goals for the annual fund and membership programs., • Oversee twice-annual appeals, including the development of physical materials, and digital and social media strategies., • Plan and manage Council events at Storm King and in the New York Tri-State area, including private collection tours, artist studio visits, and cultivation lunches., • Ensure timely and coordinated donor communications across the department, including personal thank you messages for gifts, general personal outreach for cultivation, and more., • Compose and produce proposals, solicitations, reports, and acknowledgements., • Collaborate with the Associate Director, Events & Partnerships to cultivate and support donor engagement at key events., • Supervise, mentor, and guide the daily work and professional development of the Membership Manager and Individual Giving Assistant., • Oversee the budget for all annual individual giving initiatives., • Prepare reports on fundraising priorities and monitor progress related to individual giving., • Support the Director of Development with materials for Board and Committee meetings., • 5+ years of progressive fundraising experience, including at least 3 years of direct solicitation. Experience in the visual arts preferred., • 3+ years managing a team with multiple fundraising channels. Success in recruiting and retaining a team., • Demonstrated achievement in consistently growing philanthropic support and creating a sustainable and growing program., • Personal success managing a prospect portfolio, moving donors up the pipeline, and increasing support., • Experience writing and presenting cohesive fundraising plans and executing them in a highly organized, detail oriented, and strategic manner., • Strong interpersonal skills both internally and externally, including donor, peer staff, volunteer, and other business relationships., • Exceptional persuasive writing and presentation skills; and an equal aptitude for financial and data accuracy and integrity., • A strong belief in Storm King’s mission and vision, and the ability to articulate this in a persuasive and inspiring manner., • Ability and willingness to travel to NYC and flexibility to work evenings and weekends for events and VIP visits and tours., • Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills., • Proficiency managing department and project budgets., • Ability to represent Storm King and its mission to a wide external audience; communicate effectively and interact with all levels of staff as well as artists, the public and visitors in a positive, professional, and friendly manner., • Proven capability to work on multiple projects simultaneously meeting deadlines; making sound judgments and decisions., • Experience with safeguarding confidential information and performing with a high level of discretion, professionalism, and integrity., • Knowledge of ethics and best practices for the museum field, and able to ensure that Storm King maintains a deep knowledge of best practices moving forward., • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite., • Works in an office environment, • Ability to maneuver outdoors, in all weather conditions, on 500 acres of hills, grass, and gravel pathways, • Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time during events or tours, • Frequently sits for long periods of time, • Frequently speaks, reads, writes and uses a computer keyboard, • Occasional lifting, stooping, or bending, • Requires some time outside of normal business hours, including weekend work, special events and exhibition openings This position is full-time, exempt. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Schedules may vary based on seasonality and organizational needs.
