Job DescriptionSalary: $28/hour Overview: • Based in Port Everglades, Florida, the Assistant Yard Manager is responsible for leading and providing guidance for ILA yard gangs with the objective of maintaining a safe work environment, maximizing marine, yard, and gate productivity, controlling cost and meeting terminal and operational requirements., • Part-Time Schedule:Maximum 30 hours per week, distributed from Monday to Thursday or from Thursday to Sunday. Key Responsibilities: • Lead and oversee daily terminal yard and gate operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely completion of work assignments., • Supervise and direct Headers/Foremen/Chief Supervisors and union labor, optimizing staffing levels, productivity, and labor costs., • Hire, schedule, and allocate labor based on operational needs; authorize overtime and ensure accurate payroll records and adjustments., • Monitor equipment availability prior to shift start (top handlers, forklifts, mules, trucks, etc.) to support seamless operations., • Manage and analyze operational KPIs; maintain yard and gate operations metrics and databases., • Drive continuous improvement by creating Standard Operating Procedures and proposing, coordinating, and executing operational projects., • Exercise independent judgment to make real-time operational decisions that improve turn-time, throughput, and workforce efficiency, including reassignment of labor and gate functions as needed., • Ensure compliance with labor agreements and manage grievances using sound judgment, recommending and implementing resolutions in partnership with leadership., • Provide coaching, corrective action, and discipline when necessary to support safe, high-performance operations in alignment with company and union standards., • Lead pre-operation safety talks, inspect work areas, and escalate hazards to Safety and Operations leadership to ensure adherence to safety policies., • Track drays, turn-times, gate moves, and other performance metrics throughout the day, adjusting labor distribution to meet service demands., • Plan daily support tasks (e.g., OOG, NCB, USDA functions) based on operational priorities. Requirements: • 0-2 years transportation/stevedoring experience preferred., • Bachelor's degree preferred, • Military Active Duty/Veteran or First Responder Experience, • Terminal Operations and Systems Management Experience, • Works well within a team and a fast-paced environment., • Able to acquire a port & TWIC Id., • Pass a pre-screening drug test, background check, & participation in random drug testing., • Bilingual in English/Spanish a Plus Skills/Knowledge: • Microsoft Office Suite Applications, • Leadership/Personnel Management Experience, • Conflict resolution skills, • Disciplined & organized, • Results oriented, • Proactive Work Environment: • Some exposure to extreme weather changes and humidity/moisture relative to atmospheric condition variations., • Includes exposure to extreme summer temperatures, as well as rain., • Possible exposure to dust, chemicals, gases, fumes, smoke, excessive noise, and/or vibrations., • Work generally performed in an office environment. Regular trips to the field are required that includes various hazards and noise exposure., • Travel may be required for assignments, meetings, and training., • The job also requires availability for rotating on-call schedule, occasional unscheduled callouts, and extended workdays and/or workweeks., • Overtime, Weekend and/or Holiday hours may be required., • Duties and responsibilities may be added or changed at any time at the discretion of your supervisor, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
