The Purchasing & Materials Manager is responsible for leading procurement, inventory control, warehousing, and material distribution operations within a modular manufacturing environment. This role ensures the company procures the right materials, in the right quantities, at the right time to support production schedules and project timelines while optimizing cost, quality, and supplier performance. The position drives cross-functional coordination between Engineering, Production, Project Management, and Finance to ensure seamless material flow from sourcing through installation. This role also leads continuous improvement initiatives, enhances supply chain efficiency, and mitigates risks associated with material shortages, delays, and cost fluctuations. Responsibilities • Lead Purchasing, Inventory, and Material handling teams, driving procurement strategy and operational excellence, • Provide oversight of purchasing, receiving, inventory control, warehousing systems, and material distribution, • Develop team capabilities through performance management, training, and continuous improvement initiatives, • Lead sourcing of materials, components, and services to support production and project execution, • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to achieve cost savings and favorable agreements, • Build and manage supplier relationships while evaluating performance across quality, cost, and delivery, • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including shortages, lead times, and market volatility, • Oversee inventory control processes, including receiving, storage, cycle counting, and accuracy, • Maintain optimal inventory levels to support a “zero shortage” environment while minimizing excess, • Manage material flow from receipt through production to final delivery, including returns and vendor credits, • Implement material planning and demand forecasting aligned with production schedules and project timelines, • Collaborate with Project Management, Production, Engineering and Accounting to align purchasing with build and installation schedules, • Ensure timely material availability to prevent production delays and project disruptions, • Oversee logistics including freight coordination and on-time delivery scheduling, • Work with Accounting to develop and manage purchasing and inventory budgets, including forecasting and spend control, • Work with Accounting to analyze cost variances, inventory trends, and procurement metrics to drive cost savings and efficiency, • Oversee improvement of utilization of ERP/MRP systems for purchasing, inventory control, and demand planning while improving data accuracy and forecasting, • Drive continuous improvement, ensure quality and compliance standards, and align cross-functional teams to support business objectives Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Accounting, or related business discipline preferred, • Certified Purchasing Management certificate (ISM) is a plus, • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, materials management, or supply chain operations, • 1–3 years of leadership or supervisory experience including mentoring, coaching, and improving productivity within purchasing and material handling teams, • Experience in modular manufacturing, construction manufacturing, or similar environments strongly preferred, • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, inventory control, and supply chain best practices, • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and data analysis tools, NetSuite preferred, • Expertise inventory optimization, maintaining appropriate stock levels to support operations while minimizing excess and shortages, • Advanced negotiation experience to secure favorable pricing, contract terms, and billing processes in partnership with accounting, • Success with the design and implementation of performance metrics, KPIs, and supplier scorecards to evaluate and improve operational effectiveness, • Proven experience leading cross-functional initiatives that improve operational performance and support customer satisfaction goals, • Proficiency in monitoring and improving key performance indicators such as cost savings, inventory turnover, material waste reduction, and supplier performance, • Highly proficiency in Microsoft office suite Skills and Abilities: • Strong cost management and strategic sourcing skills with the ability to reduce expenses and drive measurable savings through effective material planning and inventory control, • Proven ability to lead cross-functional collaboration, ensuring alignment on timelines, order quantities, and delivery schedules, • Effective communication and process development skills to establish accountability across departments and prevent unnecessary purchasing or surplus inventory, • Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to enhance procurement and inventory processes using systems, data, and efficiency-driven strategies, • Analytical and reporting skills to generate insights on cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and operational performance using lean methodologies, • Strong organizational and planning skills to ensure on-time delivery, project readiness, and alignment with business objectives, • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills to maintain high levels of internal collaboration and satisfaction, • Ability to organize and work in a fast-paced environment., • Ability to mentor, coach and create good morale with direct teas as well as the production crews and production managers., • Learning agility to master new software and identify new systems Physical Requirements: • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and reach, stoop kneel., • Light to moderately lifting is required., • Moderate noise (i.e., business offices with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic)., • Capable of working in various environmental conditions, including walking through production area with dust, and noise typical of construction sites., • Ability to work in shared space.
