Job Description Job Title: Structural Mechanic II The Structural Mechanic II works in a team-oriented environment with minimal supervision to perform a wide range of structural assembly, sheet metal fabrication, and installation tasks on aircraft. Using engineering prints, specifications, and operational requirements, this role ensures all assemblies conform to design and quality standards and meet customer expectations. The Structural Mechanic II may assist and instruct other team members, support continuous improvement initiatives, and contribute to process enhancements that improve safety, quality, and efficiency. Responsibilities • Perform safe and precise assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, including varied drilling and riveting operations, ensuring all parts and assemblies meet specified requirements., • Carry out sheet metal layout, fabrication, and installation of parts, equipment, and fabricated items on aircraft in accordance with prints, specifications, and standard operating procedures., • Rivet structural members, assemblies, and parts using appropriate tools such as portable riveting guns, pneumatic drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers, and rivets, and remove fasteners without damaging structures., • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequences of operations, rivet type and hole patterns, and to cut and form plastics while correctly using adhesives, sealants, and solvents., • Inspect all completed work to ensure defect-free assemblies prior to final inspection and take corrective action when necessary., • Instruct and assist other team members in interpreting blueprints, drawings, and engineering orders, and develop methods and shop aids to resolve production installation difficulties and problems., • Maintain and accurately use all required logs and records, including MIR sheets, DMTs, CRABS, and PCOs, to document work performed and material discrepancies., • Align and assemble parts to be riveted using jigs, holding fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners, and use proper tooling to shape and form complex angles and configurations according to blueprint specifications or written and verbal instructions., • Perform repairs in accordance with Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Material Review Requests (MRR), and Production Change Orders (PCO), completing all necessary rework to ensure installations meet conformity requirements., • Maintain a neat and orderly work area, actively support 5S and Lean initiative programs, and comply with all safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment., • Work closely with leads to develop and implement process improvements that increase safety, reduce cost, shorten cycle time, and reduce man hours., • Participate in continuous improvement activities and events aimed at enhancing quality, efficiency, and workplace safety., • Coordinate with other disciplines and departments on projects to ensure smooth integration of structural work with other aircraft systems and functions., • Perform lead responsibilities when required, including coordinating tasks, sharing job-related information, and supporting team members., • Properly use and maintain company-provided tools and equipment, and return items to the tool room after use., • Ensure standard operating procedures are followed when operating ground support equipment., • Collect and dispose of waste fuel, oil, hydraulic fluids, de-icing fluids, and solvent rags in accordance with environmental and safety guidelines., • Ensure accurate daily job charging to the aircraft and document work activities as required., • Exchange job-related information and coordinate work activities between shifts through turnover report meetings and direct communication with leadership., • Adapt to new tasks and assignments with minimal impact on established goal hours and schedules., • Perform other duties as assigned to support production, safety, and quality objectives. Essential Skills • High School Diploma or GED., • Minimum of 2 years of related structural assembly experience., • Proven ability to perform sheet metal layout, fabrication, and installation of aircraft parts and structures., • Demonstrated skill in close-tolerance work and familiarity with special tools and equipment used in aircraft structural assembly., • Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, operation sheets, and engineering documentation., • Experience using portable riveting guns, pneumatic drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers, and other tools required for drilling, riveting, and structural assembly., • Ability to safely remove fasteners without damaging underlying structures., • Basic computer skills for accessing work instructions, logging activities, and using production systems., • Basic shop math skills to support layout, measurement, and fabrication tasks., • Ability to read and comprehend basic documents and instructions and accurately read a scale., • Strong attention to detail with the ability to ensure assemblies are defect-free prior to final inspection., • Aptitude for hands-on craftwork and mechanical tasks in a production environment., • Professional attitude and ability to work effectively with others in a team-oriented setting., • Ability to meet demanding production schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards., • Capability to work with composite resins and materials as part of structural and assembly operations., • Ability to work any shift as required by production needs., • Physical ability to climb ladders, stands, and stairs, work in small spaces or restricted areas, and lift up to 50 pounds., • Experience working with Solumina and SmarTeam systems is preferred., • Q-stamp qualification is preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with aircraft structural sheet metal work, including drilling, riveting, and complex assembly., • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and participation in improvement events., • Ability to develop methods and shop aids to resolve installation difficulties and production problems., • Experience maintaining and using production logs and records such as MIR sheets, DMTs, CRABS, and PCOs., • Comfort working with adhesives, sealants, solvents, and plastics in accordance with standard operating procedures., • Capability to coordinate with other disciplines on projects to ensure alignment of structural work with overall aircraft systems., • Experience performing informal lead or mentoring responsibilities in a production or maintenance environment., • Understanding of 5S and Lean principles and willingness to support related initiatives., • Knowledge of proper handling, collection, and disposal of industrial fluids and solvent materials., • Skill in operating ground support equipment while following established procedures., • Ability to adapt quickly to new tasks and responsibilities with minimal impact on schedule and productivity. Work Environment This role is based in an aircraft production and assembly facility that emphasizes safety, organization, and lean manufacturing principles. Work is performed on and around aircraft structures, often on ladders, stands, and stairs, and sometimes in small or restricted spaces. The environment involves regular use of sheet metal tools, riveting equipment, pneumatic drills, ground support equipment, and production systems such as Solumina and SmarTeam. Employees handle composite materials, adhesives, sealants, solvents, and various industrial fluids while following strict safety and disposal procedures. The facility operates across multiple shifts, and the ability to work any shift is required. A neat and orderly work area is expected, and personal protective equipment must be worn as required by safety regulations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.94 - $26.94/hr.
