Job DescriptionJob Title: Process Operator Job Description The Process Operator oversees all aspects of the fermentation process in the manufacturing of yeast, ensuring safe, efficient, and consistent production. This role involves batch preparation, monitoring and adjusting process parameters such as temperature, pH, and flow, and performing in-house testing in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Process Operator works both in the control room and in the field, supporting utility and fermentation operations while maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness, and safety in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities • Oversee all stages of the yeast fermentation process from raw material input through batch completion., • Prepare and manage batch making processes, including accurately feeding raw materials into the system according to established formulas and SOPs., • Monitor and control key process parameters such as temperature, pH, and flow using control room systems and logic controllers., • Perform in-house testing for pH and ethanol using an ethanol meter, including proper calibration of the meter and strict adherence to SOPs., • Check product temperatures regularly and make necessary adjustments to maintain process stability and product quality., • Operate control room equipment to monitor process conditions, respond to alarms, and optimize production performance., • Support utility operator and fermentation operator processes, stepping in to handle fermentation responsibilities when needed., • Hook up and disconnect hoses safely to move product and materials between tanks and process areas., • Clean and sanitize tanks, equipment, and work areas to maintain high standards of plant cleanliness and food safety., • Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions while performing process and general labor tasks., • Follow quality control procedures to ensure products meet specifications and support continuous improvement efforts., • Comply with all safety guidelines, SOPs, and regulatory requirements while handling equipment, chemicals, and raw materials., • Assist with troubleshooting process issues and collaborate with team members to resolve problems promptly., • Support plant performance goals related to customer satisfaction, budget adherence, and facility cleanliness., • Participate in cross-training for both utility and fermentation operations to provide flexible coverage across the plant., • Be available to work overtime as needed to cover vacations, call-outs, and production demands., • Maintain accurate records of process data, test results, and any adjustments made during production.Essential Skills, • Associate’s degree required, preferably in a science discipline such as biology, chemistry, or a related field., • A minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience, preferably within a fast-paced, production-driven food environment., • Experience with control room operations and monitoring process equipment., • Foundational knowledge of biology and chemistry as applied to fermentation and food manufacturing., • Ability to perform quality control testing, including pH measurements and ethanol testing using an ethanol meter., • Competence in calibrating and using meters and instruments in accordance with SOPs., • Ability to monitor and control temperature, pH, and flow parameters throughout the process., • Comfort working in and out of the plant in various weather conditions., • Ability to safely climb and work at heights as needed for tank access and equipment checks., • Capability to hook up and disconnect hoses safely and correctly., • Willingness and physical ability to perform general labor tasks, including cleaning tanks and process areas., • Strong multitasking skills and the ability to manage multiple process activities simultaneously., • Resilience and composure, with the ability to stay focused and not become easily overwhelmed in a fast-paced environment., • Willingness to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule and to be available for overtime as needed.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience in food or fermentation manufacturing environments is preferred., • Familiarity with logic controllers and automated process control systems., • Previous exposure to utility operations and fermentation processes., • Strong attention to detail when following SOPs and documenting process information., • Demonstrated commitment to safety, cleanliness, and quality standards., • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented production environment., • Motivated, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities over time.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role follows a 3-on, 3-off rotating schedule, alternating between 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. shifts, resulting in approximately half the year worked due to the 12-hour shift structure. Process Operators must be available to work overtime as needed to cover vacations, call-outs, and production demands. The work takes place in a production-driven food manufacturing plant, with time split between a control room environment and fieldwork around tanks, utilities, and processing equipment. The position requires working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, climbing to access equipment, and performing physical tasks such as hooking up hoses and cleaning tanks. Employees receive cross-training in both utility operator and fermentation operator processes, enabling them to support multiple areas of the plant and handle a variety of operational responsibilities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Memphis, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
