Job DescriptionPosition Overview The Financial Controller oversees the company's full accounting cycle, with a heavy emphasis on eCommerce accounting, multichannel reconciliation, inventory management, and manufacturing cost accounting. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, clean books, and timely monthly close processes. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in eCommerce platforms, retail POS systems, and manufacturing accounting, and is confident managing a high-volume environment with complex revenue streams. Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Close * Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process. * Perform full balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, inventory, AP, AR, prepaid expenses, accruals, and credit cards. * Prepare all accrual entries and ensure proper cutoff of revenue and expenses. * Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate classification of all transactions. * Create, review, and post journal entries for: * Revenue from Shopify, Lightspeed, A2X, and marketplace platforms * Inventory adjustments for shrink, write-offs, COGS, and manufacturing usage Cash Flow & Banking * Manage cash flow forecasting, cash needs planning, and weekly visibility for leadership. * Oversee the check run, vendor payments, and AP scheduling. * Complete bank and credit card reconciliations monthly. * Monitor merchant deposits, payment processor fees, and marketplace deductions. Financial Reporting, KPIs & Board Support * Prepare and present weekly KPI dashboards to ownership and the board, providing insights on sales performance, cash flow, margins, operational metrics, and emerging risks. * Compile, analyze, and deliver monthly P&L statements and supporting financials for board meetings. * Create clear, data-driven presentations that highlight trends, variances, and actionable recommendations. * Strengthen internal reporting processes to ensure leadership receives timely, accurate, and decision-ready information. eCommerce & Marketplace Accounting * Ensure all marketplace revenue (Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Target, Shopify) is captured completely and accurately. * Review A2X, Shopify, and Lightspeed feeds for proper mapping, batching, fees, refunds, and tax. * Reconcile deposits, chargebacks, fulfillment fees, and marketplace settlements. * Validate the accuracy of online sales tax collection and reporting. Retail Store Accounting * Reconcile daily store cash drawer activity, deposits, point-of-sale transactions, and variances. * Ensure retail sales, returns, and discounts are properly recorded. * Work with store management to maintain tight cash handling controls. Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting * Maintain accurate inventory valuation, including purchased components and manufactured goods. * Reconcile inventory between systems and perform cycle counts / variance analysis. * Support cost accounting for in-house manufacturing, including: * Raw material usage * Build costs * Overhead allocations * Prepare inventory-related journal entries for shrinkage, adjustments, and COGS. Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable * Oversee AP & AR processes, approval workflows, vendor management, and aging reviews. * Ensure invoices, bills, credits, refunds, and customer payments are recorded correctly. * Maintain strong internal controls over procurement and spending. Financial Reporting & Compliance * Produce monthly financial statements and operational financial reports. * Analyze margins, profitability, operating expenses, and performance trends. * Support CPA firms for tax filings, year-end adjustments, and audit needs. * Ensure adherence to GAAP and maintain clean, organized financial records.
