Job DescriptionDescription: Job Title: Donation Services Coordinator I Department: Hospital Services Reports to: Manager of Hospital Services Exemption: Non-Exempt Date Revised: July 2025 Location: Lafayette Position Summary The Donation Services Coordinator (DSC I) will ensure timely on-site response, assessment, and evaluation of potential organ donors, as well as communicating with hospital staff to maintain opportunity for donation. The DSC I will be responsible for proactive rounding and early identification of donor referral potential. Essential Functions • Has knowledge of all aspects of LOPA’s organ and tissue referral processes, recovery, • processes, and procedures, including but not limited to LOPA’s aftercare family support services., • Maintains an understanding of LOPA’s clinical triggers and referral criteria. Is able to educate hospital staff on the importance of a timely referral., • Provides onsite and remote response to referrals, as defined in LOPA policy and procedure in assigned region., • Respond to referrals as defined in LOPA policy and procedure; conduct chart evaluations to assess donation potential and medical suitability., • Communication with hospital clinical team to gather information to assess donation potential and medical suitability., • Effectively communicates pertinent and time sensitive referral information with appropriate LOPA staff., • Is able to identify early family support triggers, when goals of care conversations or brain death exams are planned and notifies appropriate LOPA staff in a timely manner., • Is a resource to regional hospitals for all needs related to organ and tissue donation, maintains a consistent presence in assigned regional hospitals as needed, building and strengthening relationships., • Accesses the donor registry and prints the registry form when applicable., • May support the donor family throughout flag raising, honor walks, and/or DCD OR with family present., • Utilizes discretion and sensitivity with respect to the circumstances, views and beliefs of others in all interactions, including but not limited to donor families. Job Role Expectations • Adheres to all current LOPA policies, • Maintains effective communication with essential departments within the agency: Quality, HR, Education, Development, Finance and Community., • Attends required department meetings, educational opportunities and other relevant meetings., • Remain current with all required training (in person, Q-Pulse, Absorb) and policy., • Maintains usability of all designated EMR access regardless of usage needs., • Participates in at least one community or hospital-based event per year. Role Progression • Potential for DSC II with hospital assignment if the opportunity arises. Work Environment • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents with the likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed., • Possible mental and visual fatigue associated with detailed work., • This position requires travel as needed., • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods., • Communicating with others verbally and electronically to exchange information., • Considerable time spent walking., • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers., • Use of fine motor skills., • Doing work that requires visual acuity., • Need for ability to hear., • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment., • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned., • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing., • Light work that includes moving or lifting objects up to 20 pounds. Work Hours • Full time., • Monday-Friday including weekends, nights, and holidays based on regional needs., • May be required to work 8 hour or 12-hour shifts0, • Requires strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the flexibility to work odd hours., • EMT-P certification or Diploma, associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing or a BS in a medically related field., • One to two years related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite., • Knowledge of medical terminology., • Ability to communicate lab values and diagnostic procedures., • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations., • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills., • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time., • Ability to deliver effective and professional verbal and written communication., • Ability to apply common sense understanding and to solve problems., • Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
