Job DescriptionJob Title: Structural Welder – 2nd Shift Job Description This 2nd shift Structural Welder position focuses on heavy-grade structural steel fabrication using flux core dual shield welding. You will work with thick materials, follow precise specifications, and perform high-volume, repetitive welds while maintaining quality and productivity. The role suits a self-motivated welder who enjoys hands-on work in a busy steel fabrication shop and takes pride in accuracy and craftsmanship. Responsibilities • Fabricate structural steel components using heavy-grade metal ranging from 1 to over 5 inches thick., • Perform flux core dual shield welding using thick 3/32 wire on structural steel assemblies., • Maintain high accuracy by reading a tape measure to 1/16 of an inch and adhering to specified tolerances., • Interpret and follow weld symbols on shop drawings to execute welds correctly., • Operate common welding shop tools and equipment safely and efficiently., • Collaborate closely with fitters who handle blueprint reading, focusing on completing welds based on provided weld symbols and instructions., • Sustain consistent productivity and quality during long periods of repetitive welding on identical or similar pieces., • Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting production goals and project timelines., • Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in a busy fabrication environment.Essential Skills, • Demonstrated expertise in flux core dual shield welding on structural steel., • Experience working with thick structural steel, including materials from 1 to 5+ inches thick., • Strong ability to measure accurately using a tape measure to 1/16 of an inch., • Proficiency in interpreting weld symbols on shop drawings., • Hands-on experience operating common welding shop tools and equipment., • Ability to remain focused and productive during repetitive welding tasks., • Capability to work independently while maintaining high standards of quality and output., • 3 years of structural welding experience preferred but not required., • 1 year of flux core welding experience preferred.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience in structural steel fabrication and industrial welding., • Background in MIG welding and flux core wire welding processes., • Familiarity with steel fabrication shop environments., • Bilingual capabilities are a plus., • Motivated self-starter with strong work ethic and attention to detail., • Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to completing projects efficiently and with high quality., • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining consistency and precision., • Opportunity to earn certifications in D1.5 seismic and restricted access welding (6G) once on board.Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in an open steel fabrication shop under a large awning that covers the shop floor, providing shade but no climate control. The environment is a typical industrial welding setting: dirty, dusty, and loud, with daily dust and the heat associated with heavy steel work. This is a hands-on, physically demanding environment where structural steel is fabricated at scale. The role is on 2nd shift, from 5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m., with an average workload of approximately 55 to 58 hours per week and the potential for additional hours as new large projects begin. The shop operates with standard welding tools and equipment in a busy, production-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of PEORIA, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
