Job Description Automotive Service Advisor / Service Writer Location: St. Clair Shores, MI Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-6:00 PM | No weekends Compensation: Target total compensation of $65,000-$85,000+ based on experience, fit, sales performance, gross profit, and front-end execution About the Opportunity AutoShop Recruiting is partnered with a stable, family-owned independent repair shop in St. Clair Shores, MI, to hire a strong Automotive Service Advisor / Service Writer for a high-impact front-end role. This is not just an answer-the-phone-and-write-repair-orders position. This amazing shop is looking for someone who can help raise the level of the front counter and potentially grow into more of a senior advisor, lead advisor, or front-end leadership role. The right person can take ownership of the day, lead customer conversations, support the existing process, and bring more accountability to the front end. The shop already has SOPs, digital inspection expectations, follow-up processes, customer communication standards, and a front-end structure in place. This is not a build-it-from-scratch role. The bigger need is execution: someone who will follow the process, execute consistently, stay organized, and help make sure the front end runs the way it is supposed to run. What You'll Do • Answer phones properly and confidently, with the goal of converting real opportunities into scheduled vehicles, • Greet customers and lead the write-up process with confidence, clarity, and professionalism, • Set expectations clearly with customers from intake through completion, • Review factory scheduled maintenance and previous recommendations during intake, • Help make sure opportunities are not missed before the vehicle ever gets to the technician, • Build value around digital inspections, estimates, maintenance, and repair recommendations, • Present work confidently without being pushy, dishonest, or transactional, • Follow up on declined, unsold, and recommended work using phone, text, and email with the goal of actually making contact, • Keep work-in-progress statuses accurate and communicate clearly throughout the day, • Communicate clearly with technicians and help manage workflow and technician assignments, • Maintain accurate documentation in Mitchell1, • Make sure recommendations, revisions, service due dates, and follow-up items are entered correctly Accountability & KPIs This is a performance-based advisor role. The right person needs to be comfortable with structure, expectations, SOPs, and being held accountable to actual results. • Weekly sales performance, • Average repair order, • Average hours per repair order, with company minimum expectations of 2.5+ hours per RO, • Repair order gross profit, with company standards of 60%+, • Conversion of opportunities into sold work, • Conversion of phone calls into car count, • Digital inspections completed properly and sent to customers, • Follow-up calls, texts, and emails on unsold or recommended work, • Mitchell1 documentation accuracy, • WIP status accuracy, service due dates, recommendations, revisions, and follow-up process execution, • Customer communication and overall customer experience What We're Looking For • Experience as an Automotive Service Advisor, Service Writer, Senior Advisor, Lead Advisor, Assistant Service Manager, Service Manager, or similar front-end service role, • Strong phone skills and ability to convert calls into scheduled vehicles, • Comfort presenting estimates, inspections, maintenance, and repair recommendations, • Sales-minded without being sleazy; able to help customers understand what matters and ask for a decision, • Organized, steady under pressure, and able to manage many moving pieces, • Strong follow-up discipline on declined and recommended work, • Comfortable with KPI accountability, sales goals, gross profit expectations, hours per RO, documentation, and process execution, • Ability to communicate well with both customers and technicians, • Comfortable working with direct, involved ownership that cares about results and customer experience, • Mitchell1 experience is a plus; similar shop management system experience is useful, • Valid driver's license Who Fits Well Here • Confident, organized, accountable, and self-motivated, • Good on the phone, good in person, and steady under pressure, • Sales-minded, process-minded, and customer-focused, • Someone who can take ownership without being babysat or hand-held, • Someone who understands that good advisors do not just react; they control the day, • Someone who can lead customer conversations while maintaining integrity and trust Compensation & Benefits • Target total compensation of $65,000-$85,000+ depending on experience, fit, and performance, • Historically base plus commission, with commission tied to weekly sales thresholds and gross profit percentage, • Compensation plan may be adjusted for a stronger senior advisor, lead advisor, or true front-end operational person, • Health, dental, and vision insurance, • Paid holidays & Paid training, • No weekends, • Stable, family-owned independent shop with a strong customer base, • Established general repair environment How to Apply If you are a strong Automotive Service Advisor / Service Writer who can execute, take ownership, lead the customer experience, support process, and help move a strong independent repair business forward, we would like to speak with you.
