Job Description Position Summary: The Refurbishment Technician is responsible for preparing used computers for resale by installing Windows, performing hardware testing, cleaning devices, and assigning accurate cosmetic and functional condition grades. This role ensures every unit meets the company’s quality standards before being listed for sale. Key Responsibilities 1. Operating System Installation • Install and activate Windows on laptops and desktops., • Perform all necessary updates, drivers, and basic optimizations., • Configure system settings and apply standardized images when applicable. 2. Hardware Inspection & Testing • Run diagnostics on RAM, storage, battery, CPU, Wi-Fi, webcam, keyboard, ports, and other components., • Confirm the device meets minimum performance and specification requirements., • Identify hardware faults and report units needing repair or parts replacement. 3. Cosmetic Assessment & Condition Grading • Inspect each laptop for cosmetic condition: scratches, dents, blemishes, wear, and screen quality., • Evaluate functional condition including battery health, keyboard feel, and hinge stability., • Assign accurate condition grades (e.g., Like New, Grade A, Grade B, Grade C) based on company criteria., • Document findings clearly for inventory and listings. 4. Cleaning & Physical Preparation • Perform detailed exterior and interior cleaning of laptops and desktops., • Remove dust from vents, fans, and internal components when needed., • Clean screens, keyboards, ports, and casing to resale standards., • Replace missing screws, rubber feet, or covers when available. 5. Device Setup & Optimization • Install or upgrade SSDs, HDDs, and RAM when required., • Ensure devices run smoothly and efficiently before marking them as ready for sale. 6. Quality Control & Documentation • Record specifications, test results, and condition notes for each device., • Label refurbished units and update inventory systems accurately., • Maintain consistent quality across all outgoing units. 7. Workflow & Efficiency • Meet daily and weekly refurbishment targets while maintaining accuracy., • Follow all company procedures for testing, cleaning, grading, and setup., • Keep a clean, organized, and efficient workstation. Required Skills & Qualifications • Basic understanding of Windows installation and software setup., • Ability to diagnose common hardware and software issues., • Familiarity with computer components and internal parts., • Strong attention to detail for accurate condition grading., • Ability to work efficiently and follow a checklist. Preferred Qualifications (Optional) • Experience in IT support, electronics repair, or computer refurbishment., • Knowledge of diagnostic software and imaging tools., • Experience with laptop disassembly and part replacement. Work Environment • Fast-paced refurbishment and testing area., • Involves light physical tasks (lifting laptops, moving inventory)., • Collaboration with purchasing, inventory, listing, and shipping departments.
