Job DescriptionSalary: $32.16/hr Summary Outside Machinists are responsible for the disassembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of mechanical and marine equipment, including pumps, valves, turbines, and gear systems, in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, use precision measuring instruments, operate power and machining tools, and work with various metals to support shipboard and industrial systems. 1st Class Mechanics are expected to independently receive assignments, plan the work, identify material requirements, and execute tasks efficiently and accurately. Duties & Responsibilities • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and always adhere to all OSHA safety standards and company safety policies., • Must adhere to all applicable safety, technical, and regulatory guidelines, including but not limited to:, • Company policies and procedures, • Local, state, and federal regulations, • ABS, NAVSEA Standard Items, and MSC GTRs, • MIL-STD (e.g., 1689-A, 2035), • General Specifications for Overhaul of Ships, • OSHA 2268, • Proficient at reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and work authorization forms (WAFs) to guide mechanical work processes., • Use precision measuring instruments such as tape measures, dial indicators, slide calipers, and telescoping gauges to verify dimensions and alignments., • Operate and maintain hand and power tools commonly used in mechanical and marine equipment repair., • Disassemble and overhaul a variety of mechanical and marine equipment, including pumps, valves, winches, gearboxes, turbines, condensers, etc., • Remove, repair, modify, or overhaul shipboard systems such as hydraulics, reduction gears, generators, anchor windlasses, and other marine equipment., • Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of industrial and marine mechanical equipment, including ANSI pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, extruders, mixers, agitators, and blenders., • Apply working knowledge of materials including bronze, brass, mild steel, heat-treated steel, and stainless steel in fabrication and repair processes., • Install below-deck auxiliary equipment (e.g., evaporators, stills, heaters, condensers, boilers) and connect them to steam piping systems., • Possess and maintain personal tools and equipment necessary to accomplish their trade responsibilities., • Conduct self-inspections to ensure work meets quality standards and complies with applicable drawings and specifications., • Provide guidance and train junior craftsmen, providing direction as a senior mechanic when required., • Maintain a good attendance record, demonstrate a positive and professional attitude, work well with others, take pride in your work, and be receptive to constructive feedback from mentors (supervisor, PMT, etc.). Experience Requirements • 4 - 6 years of experience as a Machinist in a shipyard. Other Requirements • Must be able to work in various environmental conditions including outdoor weather, heights, confined spaces, loud noise, and exposure to airborne particles or fumes., • Must be able to wear a respirator as required for specific tasks and maintain compliance with fit testing and respiratory protection protocols., • Regularly required to sit, reach, and use hands for handling or operating tools and equipment., • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, squat, crawl, and climb ladders or structures (e.g., masts, tanks, voids)., • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. independently and seek assistance for heavier loads., • Must be able to pass Drug Screening, Work Ability Screening., • Must be able to obtain a Government facility security pass and badges at the various shipyards Tcnico works at (e.g., MHI, BAE, NASSCO, HII)., • Availability to work overtime, weekends, or travel to alternate worksites when project needs demand., • Perform other duties as assigned.
