Job Description Job Title: Warehouse Worker – Order Puller / Forklift Operator (2nd Shift) Pay: $18/hour Job Description This role combines order pulling, crane operation, and general warehouse duties in a metal processing and distribution environment. You will accurately pick and stage orders, load and unload trucks and tractor trailers with steel products using overhead cranes and other equipment, and help maintain a clean, safe, and organized warehouse. The position involves working with a variety of metals, including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel, while following established safety and quality standards. Prior crane experience is helpful but not required, as comprehensive training is provided. Responsibilities • Pull and stage customer orders accurately based on pick tickets and shipping documentation., • Load and unload trucks and tractor trailers with steel products using overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment., • Use overhead cranes safely to move, load, and unload steel and other metal products throughout the warehouse., • Handle a variety of materials, including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel, with attention to safety and product integrity., • Interpret orders for shipping information, special instructions, product locations, and quantities to ensure correct fulfillment., • Perform regular cycle counts and assist with inventory control tasks to maintain accurate stock records., • Keep the warehouse clean, organized, and free of hazards by following housekeeping standards., • Follow all safety guidelines, procedures, and protocols while operating equipment and performing daily tasks., • Perform general warehouse duties as assigned, including picking, packing, loading, unloading, and material movement., • Support other areas of the warehouse as needed to meet operational and customer demands., • Be available to work overtime as required, which may include up to 2–3 additional hours after the scheduled shift depending on workload., • Use measuring tools and measuring skills to verify steel dimensions and ensure orders meet specifications., • Collaborate with coworkers and senior team members, participating in on-the-job training and shadowing to learn multiple roles within the warehouse. Essential Skills • Experience pulling and picking orders in a warehouse or similar environment., • Ability to safely load and unload steel and other metal products onto trucks and tractor trailers., • Basic measuring skills to accurately measure steel and verify product dimensions., • Comfort working with overhead cranes or willingness to learn crane operation through provided training., • Ability to interpret pick tickets, shipping documents, and special instructions to fulfill orders correctly., • Experience or familiarity with inventory tasks such as cycle counts and stock checks., • Capability to perform physical warehouse work, including lifting, moving, and positioning metal products., • Self-motivation and the ability to work productively with limited supervision., • Willingness and availability to work 2nd shift hours (3:00 PM–11:00 PM) and overtime as needed., • Ability to work safely in a metal shop environment that is non-climate controlled. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, or other material-handling equipment in a warehouse or metal shop setting., • Background in order pulling, order picking, loading, and unloading in an industrial or distribution environment., • Interest in learning multiple jobs within the warehouse and developing new technical skills., • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order fulfillment and inventory records., • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to support coworkers and adapt to changing priorities. Work Environment This position is based in a metal shop and warehouse environment on 2nd shift, working Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with the possibility of 2–3 hours of overtime depending on workload. The facility is non-climate controlled, so it can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer. You will work around steel and other metal products, overhead cranes, and typical warehouse equipment. Some employees smoke in designated areas within the warehouse, so you should be comfortable being around occasional cigarette smoke. New team members receive one to two months of on-the-job training, primarily through shadowing experienced coworkers and tenured employees, with the expectation that you will learn the processes thoroughly rather than being required to immediately work independently. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of NORFOLK, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
