Job DescriptionWarehouse Worker & Crater Job Overview This role combines warehouse operations with custom crating for high‑value, heavy, oversized, and sensitive items. You’ll build wooden crates, prep shipments, package materials, and support daily warehouse tasks. Responsibilities • Shipment prep — weigh items, document shipping info, and enter basic data into a computer, • Material cutting — cut packing materials to size and crimp bags for secure closure, • Part counting — verify quantities and ensure accurate shipment counts, • Physical labor — lift up to 50 lbs and stay active throughout the shift, • Measuring work — use tape measures to determine crate, skid, pallet, and packaging dimensions, • Crate building — construct custom wooden crates, skids, and pallets using lumber, plywood, and hardware, • Specialty packaging — use foam, vapor barriers, blocking, bracing, and heat‑shrink wrapping, • Export standards — follow ISPM‑15 heat‑treatment rules for international shipments, • Item assessment — measure and inspect items to determine the safest packaging method, • Tool operation — safely operate saws, nail guns, drills, and other hand/power tools, • Freight handling — assist with loading, unloading, and staging freight, • Team coordination — work with leadership and shipping teams to meet deadlines, • Work area upkeep — maintain a clean, safe, organized workspace, • Item care — handle customer items with care and accountability, • Workflow support — follow work orders and request additional tasks when finishedEssential Skills, • Warehouse experience or background in crating, carpentry, construction, or packaging, • Basic computer use for shipping and documentation, • Instruction reading and measurement accuracy, • Tape measure proficiency, • Physical stamina — lifting, carrying, standing, • Tool operation — saws, nail guns, drills, etc., • Attention to detail, • Teamwork and independent work capability, • Reliable attendance, • Strong work ethic, • Career motivation and willingness to learnAdditional Skills & Qualifications, • Crating experience or carpentry background, • ISPM‑15 familiarity for export shipments, • Custom crate building with lumber and hardware, • High‑value item handling (electronics, medical equipment, machinery, fine art), • Foam and barrier use, • Heat‑shrink wrapping, • Safety compliance, • Team support and willingness to ask for more workWhy Work Here? The environment is organized, safety‑focused, and centered around careful handling of valuable items. Dress code includes steel‑toe footwear, jeans or appropriate shorts, and a plain T‑shirt or collared shirt. You’ll receive a swipe badge for timekeeping, and orientation covers call‑outs, timecards, and safety procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
