Job DescriptionSalary: $27.23 - 32.16/hr Summary Pipefitters are responsible for installing, fitting, and assembling piping systems made of materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel, and stainless steel, in a safe and efficient manner. Work is performed using appropriate tools, valves, and fittings, following technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate and compliant system installations. 1st Class Mechanics are expected to independently receive assignments, plan the work, identify material requirements, and execute tasks efficiently and accurately. Duties & Responsibilities • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and always adhere to all OSHA safety standards and Tcnico safety policies., • Must adhere to all applicable safety, technical, and regulatory guidelines, including but not limited to:, • Company policies and procedures, • Local, state, and federal regulations, • ABS, USCG, NAVSEA Standard Items, and MSC GTRs, • ASME/ANSI Codes and OEM Specifications, • MIL-STD (e.g., 777E, 22D, 1627), • General Specifications for Overhaul of Ships, • Applicable special procedures (e.g., pipe bending (Mil-STD-1627), brazed systems (7000)), • Perform layout, fabrication, installation, modification, testing, and repair of piping systems using various materials (copper, CuNi, CRES, steel, etc.)., • Proficient at reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and sketches; create fabrication sketches and targets for new installations and mock-ups., • Install systems with or without blueprints, including building mock-ups and off-site prefabrication., • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to pipe fitting removals and installation., • Prepare pipe joints for welding, brazing, soldering, threading or gluing, ensuring adherence to required tolerances., • Operate pipe bending machines and torches; fabricate and install pipe hangers and supports., • Proficient at performing air, hydrostatic, static and operational tests on piping systems in accordance with safety and quality standards, including 009-71., • Calculate joint allowances, take-offs, and tolerances for butt welds, socket welds, braze and threaded joints., • Must be proficient in performing silver brazing (Grades 3, 4, and 5) and installing various MAF fittings., • Work independently and safely, following all applicable procedures, specifications, and safety regulations., • Must have the ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the Pipefitting trade including but not limited to, pipe benders, bandsaws, grinders, drills and pipe threaders. Also possess and maintain personal hand tools necessary to accomplish their trade., • Read and interpret Chemist and Competent Person reports to ensure safe conditions for hot work., • Conduct self-inspections to ensure work meets quality standards and complies with applicable drawings and specifications., • Provide guidance and train junior craftsmen, providing direction as a senior mechanic when required., • Maintain a good attendance record, demonstrate a positive and professional attitude, work well with others, take pride in your work, and be receptive to constructive feedback from mentors (supervisor, PMT, etc.). Certification Requirements • Must be certified to braze (Grade 3, Grade 4, and Grade 5), • 4 - 6 years of experience as a Pipefitter in a shipyard. (1st Class), • 2 - 4 years of experience as a Pipefitter in a shipyard (2nd Class), • 1 - 3 years of experience as a Pipefitter in a shipyard. (3rd Class) Other Requirements • Must be able to work in various environmental conditions including outdoor weather, heights, confined spaces, loud noise, and exposure to airborne particles or fumes., • Must be able to wear a respirator as required for specific tasks and maintain compliance with fit testing and respiratory protection protocols., • Regularly required to sit, reach, and use hands for handling or operating tools and equipment., • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, squat, crawl, and climb ladders or structures (e.g., masts, tanks, voids)., • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs. independently and seek assistance for heavier loads., • Must be able to pass Drug Screening, Work Ability Screening., • Must be able to obtain a Government facility security pass and badges at the various shipyards Tcnico works at (e.g., MHI, BAE, NASSCO, HII)., • Availability to work overtime, weekends, or travel to alternate worksites when project needs demand., • Perform other duties as assigned.
