The role includes appeals, pre-action protocol (PAP) correspondence and administrative reviews. The successful candidate will prepare and progress work under the principal solicitor’s supervision; they will not provide independent legal advice or make final legal decisions. Responsibilities 1. Assist with the day-to-day progression of immigration, asylum, human rights and appeal files under the principal solicitor’s supervision., 2. Take client instructions, prepare accurate attendance notes and maintain organised electronic case files., 3. Review decisions and evidence, identifying missing documents and legal, procedural or evidential issues for the solicitor’s attention., 4. Research the Immigration Rules, legislation, case law, Home Office guidance and relevant country evidence as directed., 5. Prepare first drafts of applications, witness statements, representations, appeal grounds and correspondence for solicitor review., 6. Assist with PAP correspondence and administrative reviews, including gathering evidence and preparing draft submissions for the solicitor’s review and approval., 7. Prepare indexed appeal bundles and other First-tier Tribunal hearing documents., 8. Monitor Home Office and Tribunal directions and deadlines, promptly escalating action required., 9. Use MyHMCTS, as authorised, to upload documents, review directions and monitor appeals., 10. Liaise with barristers, chambers and expert witnesses, providing instructions and case documents approved by the supervising solicitor and assisting with expert evidence and hearing preparation., 11. Communicate with clients, the Home Office and HMCTS within the scope of the role, referring requests for substantive legal advice to the solicitor., 12. Essential requirements • An LLB or equivalent recognised law degree., • Some relevant immigration, asylum, human rights or litigation casework experience, including supervised work or a placement., • Working knowledge of the Immigration Rules and relevant immigration, asylum and human rights principles., • Familiarity with First-tier Tribunal procedure and the applicable Immigration and Asylum Chamber Practice Direction., • Ability to research legal and evidential issues, take accurate instructions and draft clear case documents., • Ability to manage competing tasks and deadlines under solicitor supervision., • Professional written and spoken English, and fluency in spoken Urdu and/or Hindi to assist clients who use those languages., • Confidence using digital files and office software, with the ability to learn MyHMCTS and legal case-management systems., • Understanding of confidentiality, data protection and responsible use of approved legal technology.
