Location: London\nEmployment Type: Full-time\nSector: Rail / Rolling Stock / Transportation Engineering\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe are seeking a Project Engineer with a background in rolling stock and new train introduction (NTI) programmes to support the delivery of major rail projects across the UK network. Based in London, the successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating engineering activities associated with the introduction, testing, commissioning, modification, and acceptance of new fleets into operational service.\n\nThis role requires a technically capable and delivery-focused engineer with experience working across multidisciplinary railway environments, including interfaces with operators, maintainers, OEMs, infrastructure managers, and regulatory stakeholders.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Lead and coordinate engineering activities associated with rolling stock projects and new train introduction programmes.\n\n * Support fleet integration, testing, validation, commissioning, and entry-into-service activities.\n\n * Manage technical interfaces between rolling stock manufacturers, operators, depots, infrastructure teams, and suppliers.\n\n * Ensure compliance with UK railway standards, safety requirements, and engineering governance processes.\n\n * Review and manage engineering documentation including design changes, technical queries, risk assessments, and test procedures.\n\n * Support configuration management and change control throughout the project lifecycle.\n\n * Monitor project progress against programme milestones, identifying and mitigating technical risks and issues.\n\n * Participate in fault investigations, reliability improvement initiatives, and performance reviews during fleet introduction.\n\n * Coordinate with operational and maintenance teams to ensure fleet readiness and smooth handover into service.\n\n * Contribute to stakeholder reporting, engineering assurance, and project reviews.\n\nEssential Requirements\n\n * Degree qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Rail Engineering (or equivalent experience).\n\n * Proven experience working within rolling stock projects and new train introduction programmes in the UK rail industry.\n\n * Strong understanding of railway systems integration, testing, commissioning, and acceptance processes.\n\n * Experience working with railway standards, safety cases, and engineering assurance frameworks.\n\n * Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across complex, multidisciplinary projects.\n\n * Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.\n\n * Experience supporting project delivery within live operational railway environments.\n\n * Proficient in technical reporting, engineering documentation, and project coordination.\n\nDesirable Experience\n\n * Experience working with UK TOCs, ROSCOs, OEMs, or rail consultancies.\n\n * Knowledge of depot readiness, fleet maintenance integration, or reliability growth programmes.\n\n * Familiarity with systems such as ETCS, TCMS, traction, braking, or passenger systems.\n\n * Experience with major rail programmes including fleet upgrades, refurbishment, or new fleet deployment.\n\nWhat We Offer\n\n * Opportunity to work on high-profile rolling stock and rail transformation programmes\n\n * Competitive salary and benefits package\n\n * Career progression within a growing rail engineering environment\n\n * Hybrid working opportunities where project requirements allow\n\n * Professional development
