Facilities Mechanical Technician Location: Newton Aycliffe, UK Sector: Semiconductor Manufacturing Reporting to: Facilities Supervisor Job Type: Full-Time Octric Semiconductor is a new name in the compound semiconductor foundry space. Its devices are used in mission critical defence and commercial applications. For over 25-years, we have been delivering over 1.5 billion devices that have been shipped from our site to date. PURPOSE OF ROLE: Participate enthusiastically in the provision of the highest standard of HSE Performance in the department. Focus self and assist others on the delivery of the department mission statement “Safe effective, efficient and seamless supply of facilities services with target zero disruption to the site production schedule” Perform and integral part in the successful operation of the department by delivering technician services with specialism of Mechanical and Piping. Provide technician support required to undertake planned, breakdown and minor modification maintenance activities. Proactively deliver the role and “Operate in a spirit of continuous improvement” rapidly driving the role towards technicians being “Multidisciplined”. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: • Ensure Health & Safety standards/procedures are adhered including “Risk Assessment and JSA”, • Self-motivated planning and delivery of breakdown and planned and breakdown maintenance activities, • Observe site priorities and deliver activities in line with site guidance, • Operate in accordance “Maximo / CMMS” including accurate and timely recording of information, • Safely diagnose and rectify plant breakdowns, undertake root causes reviews and implement remedial actions. Target being minimising plant downtime and probability of fault reoccurrence., • Undertake planned maintenance in a timely manner reviewing findings and adjusting frequencies, • Share technical knowledge on “Specialism” with others and assist with “Multidisciplined Training”, • Actively engage with process operators developing ability to operate process plant. Capable of working and changing over high potential risk process gases and cylinders used in process, • Uphold site and UK Standards and ensure site complies with ISO9001/ISO14001/ISO45001., • Actively engaged in the inspection and maintenance of pressure vessels and equipment as detailed in Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, • Develop, undertake and own “Continuous Improvement Projects and Activities” MAIN TASKS: • Proactive participation in all HSE activities including Risk Assessment and Method Statements, • Proactive role in developing a positively safe and environmental and quality culture to satisfy ISO 45001/140001/9001 respectively. Actively engages in ensuring compliance with LOLER Regulations., • Utilise CMMS to identify, analyse and record PM’s and breakdowns in accordance with mechanical maintenance schedules and written scheme of inspection for pressure envelope / PSSR Regs., • Self- lead and motivated delivery of comprehensive Planned Maintenance Schedules including timely input of information and review of findings. Finding review to be used to make recommendation on frequencies and suitability of maintenance activity., • Work closely with process technicians and monitor plant to ensure breakdowns are remediated in a safe and effective and efficient manner thus minimizing disruption of supply of service., • Analyse, maintain and rectify fault conditions across a range of plant, equipment & systems. This will include Root Cause Analysis for failure and subsequent development and implementation of improvement plan, • Inspect, check, align, and overhaul mechanical and rotating equipment and valves. Install and fit pipe work, with screwed and flange connections along with associated brackets, • Operate and diagnose fault conditions on rotating and pneumatic equipment removing and reinstalling as required. Actively engaged in compliance with PUWER Regulations, • Ensure high standards of engineering principles and procedures, compliance with good understanding of alignment, vibration and bolt tensioning analysis techniques, • Play an active role to identify and implement facilities plant improvements in order to increase reliability, efficiency and reduce operating costs through continuous improvements., • To understand how variations in the facilities plant and services can impact the fabrication plant performance. Actively engaged in changeover of high potential risk process gases and cylinders., • Play an active role in problem solving activities during major events using an appropriate problem-solving tools and techniques. E.g 5 Why, Fish bone, 8 D and other Root Cause Tools., • Liaise with vendors and field service engineers for assistance in service contracts, breakdowns & telephone support, • Flexible and willing to work throughout the operation to achieve the business goals., • Contribute towards Key Performance Indicators to achieve Engineering targets, • Contribute towards training of fellow Technicians, Operators and Apprentices. JOB REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL: • Time served apprenticeship from a Mechanical or Pipefitting Background / discipline., • Minimum of 2 years post apprentice knowledge and experience of Process / Chemical Plant, • Familiarity of COSHH and ability to write method statements and risk assessments, • Solid and wide-ranging understanding of rotating machines and fixed mechanical equipment to allow effective maintenance e.g Heat exchangers, pumps, valves and pressure relief stream devices., • Strong analytical and problem-solving skill with a strong appreciation of both practical and theoretical methodologies., • Pro-active approach to maintenance with excellent and proven fault diagnosis and application of vibration analysis techniques on rotating equipment., • Working knowledge of ventilation and air conditioning plant and motor maintenance, • Knowledge ISO Piping and Fabrication standards to remove and install pipe work., • Comprehensive IT skills covering main micro soft software packages, • Pro-active self-motivated and capable of working without direct supervision., • Demonstrate creative approach to specific tasks and willing to become “Multi disciplined”., • Team player with good Communication skills that is Results and performance driven, • Greater than 4 years’ experience in a facilities/plant environment., • Fulfilled role at “Technician Level” in a chemical or pharmaceutical background, • Familiar with ISO9001 /ISO14001/ ISO45001 standards or equivalent., • Ability to diagnose faults and optimise process performance of pneumatic and hydraulic systems., • Capable of inspecting, testing, checking operation and overhauling pumps, gearboxes, valves, heat exchangers and process plant equipment., • Willing to adapt and learn skills required to work on LV electrical equipment including isolations and LOTO Procedures., • Conversant with operation of diesel generator engine maintenance, • Knowledge of heat exchanger overhaul techniques, • Sound understanding of PSSR, LOLER and PUWER regulations., • Prepared to be flexible in working additional hours to suit business needs., • Decisive, accurate, creative and forward thinking., • Strong focus on “Continuous Improvement”, • HNC in related engineering discipline.
