Build the technical foundation of one of the UK's leading end-of-life platforms The opportunity Aura is building a new kind of end-of-life company - one that brings clarity, warmth, and modern thinking to a category most companies get wrong. We support thousands of people through the hardest decisions and stages of life. We're looking for a senior full-stack engineer to join a small tech and product team and take genuine ownership of our technical function. This is not a ticket-picking role in a large engineering org. You'll work directly with a product team across discovery, build and iteration - and you'll work directly with the CTO on the platforms, infrastructure, and integrations that keep the business running. What you'll own Product and feature development • Work across the full product cycle - from early problem definition through to shipped features - in close collaboration with product and design, • Contribute to exploratory new product work where the problem space is still being defined, • Manage WordPress platform end-to-end: performance, plugin management, security, staging, and ongoing improvements, • Maintain and modernise existing solutions, including legacy codebases, reducing technical debt incrementally without disrupting what's working, • Build and maintain integrations across internal systems including HubSpot and ClickUp, • Take joint ownership of the technical backbone that keeps the business running day-to-day What success looks like In six months, you'll know you're succeeding when: • The WordPress platform is stable, well-documented, and improving consistently, • New product features are shipping at pace without accumulating new debt, • The codebase is cleaner and better understood than when you joined, • You're an active, trusted voice in product and design conversations - not just a delivery function What we're looking for • 6+ years of full-stack experience with Laravel/PHP and React or Next.js at the core, • Hands-on experience with WordPress beyond themes - performance, architecture and security, • Comfortable with AWS and Docker deployments, • Familiar with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or GitLab CI), • Experienced making architectural decisions in a startup or scale-up environment without a large team around you, • Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code or similar) as a genuine productivity multiplier - with the judgement to know when to override them Bonus, not essential: • Experience working in a product trio alongside a PM and designer, • Familiarity with JTBD or other customer discovery approaches, • Experience with Symfony or PHP 7 legacy migration Who you are • Self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity - you don't need a large team or detailed specs to do good work, • Genuinely interested in building products that help people, not just ship code, • Commercially aware enough to know which technical decisions serve the business and which don't, • Someone who wants ownership, not just responsibility Salary and package • £60-70k, • Contract-to-perm (preferred but negotiable), • Fully remote (UK-based), • Unlimited holiday with a high-trust, flexible culture, • Opportunity to work abroad for one month a year, • Wellness apps and anonymous counselling support
