We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Second in Charge of Mathematics to join our successful and forward-thinking Mathematics department in a thriving secondary school. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding classroom practitioner with a passion for raising achievement and supporting curriculum development within a high-performing team. Working closely with the Head of Mathematics, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the department, driving standards, and ensuring excellent outcomes for students across Key Stages 3, 4 and, where applicable, Key Stage 5. The Role As Second in Charge of Mathematics, you will: • Support the leadership and day-to-day management of the Mathematics department, • Deliver engaging and high-quality Mathematics lessons across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable), • Assist in curriculum planning, assessment, and departmental improvement strategies, • Monitor student progress and contribute to raising attainment and achievement, • Support and mentor colleagues, including ECTs and less experienced teachers, • Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and academic excellence The Ideal Candidate Will Have: • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), • A degree in Mathematics or a related subject, • Proven experience teaching Mathematics in a secondary school setting, • A strong track record of excellent classroom practice and student outcomes, • Leadership potential or previous middle leadership experience within a department, • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, • A commitment to continuous professional development and whole-school improvement What We Offer: • A supportive and collaborative leadership team, • Opportunities for career progression and leadership development, • A well-resourced Mathematics department with a strong team ethos, • Excellent CPD opportunities, • A positive and inclusive school culture committed to staff wellbeing Salary Outer London Teacher Pay Scale (MPS/UPS) + TLR (dependent on experience and responsibilities)
