Project Engineer Packaging Machinery, Hereford, Up to £50,000 pa + Benefits Are you an experienced Project Engineer with a background in packaging machinery , engineering or automated equipment? Are you someone who enjoys having ownership of a project from beginning to end, and can manage several projects simultaneously? This could be an excellent opportunity to join a fast-growing, independent packaging machinery business supplying complete machinery and production-line solutions to customers across the UK and overseas. The Role: As Project Engineer , you will take primary responsibility for your own portfolio of new machinery projects, managing each one from initial specification through to installation and completion. Projects typically run for around three months, although this can vary, and you'll gradually build a portfolio of around 10 live projects at different stages . Each new project brings a fresh set of requirements, customers, suppliers and challenges, so this is a role where priorities can change quickly and no two days are quite the same. You'll be the key link between the customer, suppliers, internal teams and installation personnel, ensuring projects remain technically, commercially and operationally on track. Your responsibilities will include: Taking full cradle-to-grave responsibility for multiple machinery projects. Reviewing customer requirements and agreeing machine specifications. Visiting customer sites to measure up, assess requirements and review project progress. Arranging and attending machine testing, validation and acceptance activities. Working with CAD and engineering colleagues on equipment and line layouts. Liaising with machinery manufacturers, suppliers and third parties in the UK and Europe. Managing delivery, logistics and installation arrangements. Attending customer sites during installation, commissioning and project completion. Monitoring project timescales, costs, revenues and profitability. Managing variations and ensuring these are correctly identified and invoiced. Maintaining accurate project information through the company's ERP and project-tracking systems. Preparing and reviewing tender and project documentation. Supporting Sales Managers with customer meetings and presentations. Producing project visit reports and providing clear, regular progress updates to the wider team. Supporting the company's quality and Health & Safety requirements. There will also be UK and European travel to customer and supplier sites, including supplier visits for machine validation and training. What We're Looking For: The most important thing is proven project management experience within an engineering or machinery environment . You'll ideally have: At least 3 years' project management / project engineering experience. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish . A background in, or good working knowledge of, packaging machinery . Experience with flexible and/or rigid packaging equipment for example VFFS/HFFS, baggers, pouch machines, wrappers, weighers, fillers, cappers, bottling equipment, labelling or associated production-line machinery. A basic practical understanding of mechanical engineering and machinery installation/commissioning . The confidence to visit customer sites, understand what is required and take ownership of the project. Strong communication and organisational skills , with the ability to build effective relationships with both customers and suppliers. The ability to work at pace, manage changing priorities and make things happen without requiring constant supervision. A genuine team-player mentality , with the confidence to provide and receive honest project updates and feedback. Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and project-management software. A full UK passport/right to travel for European supplier visits. PRINCE2 or an equivalent project-management qualification would be advantageous. Experience with AutoCAD, Smartsheet, Simpro or another ERP/project-management system, together with logistics/import knowledge, would also be beneficial. Why This Role? This is a role for someone who wants to be the person responsible for making things happen. You'll join an established but rapidly expanding business where new projects continue to come through, meaning there is plenty to get your teeth into. The project team is busy for a good reason: sales are continuing to grow, the machinery offering is expanding and the business is taking on increasingly varied projects. You'll initially spend time learning the company's processes and understanding how a project progresses from enquiry through to completion. You'll then begin working directly with customers and suppliers, with the support of the Lead Project Engineer available as a point of escalation when required. The expectation, however, is that you will ultimately be someone who can take ownership, make decisions, communicate confidently and run with your projects . If you have the engineering knowledge, packaging machinery experience and project-management ability to jump in at the deep end and make things happen , this could be a very good opportunity to join a business that is going places. Location: Hereford , with regular UK customer visits and occasional European travel Hours: Full time, office-based with travel Holiday: 5 weeks + Bank Holidays Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience TPBN1_UKTJ
