Job Summary The Bus Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students, ministry guests, employees, and volunteers. This role involves operating the bus on established routes, performing vehicle inspections, maintaining order on the bus, and providing excellent service during transportation to and from school, field trips, church-related events, and other ministry activities. Key Responsibilities • Safely operate a bus or passenger vehicle on designated routes to transport students, employees, volunteers, and ministry guests to and from various locations, including school, field trips, and church-related events., • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in safe and operational condition., • Adhere to all applicable traffic laws, safety regulations, and speed limits, maintaining a defensive driving approach and proactively responding to potential hazards., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe interior of the bus or vehicle, ensuring that safety equipment (such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits) is accessible and functional., • Ensure the safety and well-being of passengers, maintaining order and discipline among students and guests, and enforcing safety rules and behavior expectations on the bus., • Assist passengers, including those with special needs, during boarding and disembarking, ensuring their safe entry and exit from the vehicle., • Communicate effectively with students, ministry staff, parents, and guests to address concerns, resolve issues, and ensure a positive and smooth transportation experience., • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or breakdowns, following established safety procedures and notifying relevant authorities as needed., • Keep accurate records of daily mileage, fuel consumption, passenger counts, and route deviations, and document any incidents, accidents, or disciplinary actions., • Participate in and complete required safety and training programs., • High school diploma or equivalent., • Previous experience as a bus driver or in a similar transportation role is preferred., • Excellent driving skills with a clean driving record and a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements., • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with students, ministry staff, and passengers in a professional and positive manner., • Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle safety regulations, and best practices for bus and passenger vehicle operation., • Ability to maintain control of the vehicle and the passengers, ensuring a safe and respectful environment at all times. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, employees will frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, and more than 50 pounds infrequently with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The bus driver may be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays, depending on business requirements. Casual status roles may work up to 25 hours per week.
