Job DescriptionA/R Representative - Professional Billing (Contract-to-Hire) Location: Remote (Must reside in NY, NJ, or CT) Pay: $21-$25/hour Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM (35 hours/week) Start Date: May 4, 2026 Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (5 months) Employer: Medix (supporting a leading academic healthcare system) Overview Medix is seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable Representative (Professional Billing) to support a nationally recognized academic medical center. This role focuses on resolving complex physician billing claims including denials, appeals, and insurance follow-up across multiple specialties. This is a strong opportunity for a revenue cycle professional who thrives in a structured healthcare environment and is comfortable working independently in a remote setting. Candidates must reside in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut and be available for a one-time equipment pickup. Key Responsibilities • Perform end-to-end follow-up on professional (physician) claims, • Work denials, appeals, claim corrections, and insurance disputes, • Analyze EOBs and payer responses to determine root cause issues, • Prepare and submit detailed, documentation-supported appeals, • Resolve Coordination of Benefits (COB) issues, • Conduct outbound calls to insurance carriers to resolve claim discrepancies, • Correct billing issues related to CPT, modifiers, and E&M coding, • Work across multiple specialties with varying billing rules, • Maintain productivity and quality standards, • Document all activity accurately within EPIC, • Participate in audits, team huddles, and performance reviews (camera-on expectation) Required Qualifications • 3+ years of professional (physician) billing or AR follow-up experience, • Strong knowledge of CPT codes, modifiers, and E&M coding, • Experience handling denials, appeals, and insurance follow-up independently, • Strong understanding of commercial insurance processes, • Inpatient and outpatient professional billing experience required, • EPIC or similar EMR experience required, • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, • Ability to work independently in a remote environment Preferred Experience • Multi-specialty experience (GI, endocrinology, pulmonary, cardiology, neurology, oncology, orthopedics, surgical specialties), • Experience in academic medical centers, faculty practices, or large health systems, • Workers' compensation billing experience, • Strong organizational and time management skills Productivity & Performance Expectations • 35-50+ accounts/day depending on complexity, • Meet established quality and audit standards, • Maintain accurate documentation and workflow consistency in EPIC, • Participate in ongoing performance evaluations and audits Schedule & Work Environment • Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM (35 hours/week), • Fully remote after equipment pickup, • One-time equipment pickup required in NY, NJ, or CT, • Professional, distraction-free remote workspace required, • Business casual attire for virtual meetings IT Equipment Policy (Important) To receive company equipment, a temporary refundable equipment deposit policy applies: • $50 per week is deducted from paychecks for the first 10 weeks, • A total of $500 is fully refunded after 10 weeks of employment This is not an upfront payment, and the full amount is returned upon completion of the deposit period.
