Position Summary The Visitor Experience Assistant Manager plays a key leadership role in creating a welcoming and engaging environment for all our guests. Reporting to the Visitor Experience Manager, you will lead by example, deliver outstanding visitor and member engagement, oversee operations, and ensure every visitor leaves with a memorable experience. Key Responsibilities • Act as ambassador for our living museum greeting and interacting with visitors, ensuring a positive experience from arrival to departure., • Engage with visitors throughout the conservatory: answer questions about programs, events and exhibits., • Lead and motivate the Visitor Services team to provide a welcoming and engaging experience for all., • Monitor visitor feedback, address concerns promptly, and implement improvements for enhanced satisfaction., • Assist in planning and executing events, tours, and special programs., • Oversee ticketing, admissions, visitor engagement and retail operations to ensure efficiency and accuracy in all transactions., • Collaborate with horticulture and education teams to create a seamless visitor journey., • Develop and manage staff schedules: coordinate shift rotations, timeoff requests, seasonal staffing, monitor attendance and adjust staffing based on visitor volume, events and weather., • Process visitor transactions, accurately handle cash, count daily drawers, use Altru software., • Support visitor engagement: learning stations, family/student programs, Feed the Fish, and other informal activities., • Serve as a tour guide as needed; maintain knowledge of the Gardens living plant collection., • Champion our membership program: sales, engagement, promotions, mailings, data entry., • Assist with retail operations: engage customers, merchandise display/restocking, accurate POS transactions, cash drawer counts., • Build positive relationships with coworkers, vendors and volunteers; promote open communication and adherence to our Mission, Vision, Core Values, Inclusion Code of Conduct and Strategic Plan., • Work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak visitor times., • Perform other duties as required. Qualifications • High school diploma (or equivalent); a minimum of 4 years experience in hospitality, guest services, retail or sales. Preferred: experience in a museum, non-profit, tourism or botanical garden/hospitality setting., • Strong communication, customer service and organizational skills. Comfortable engaging with visitors of all ages in educational & retail settings., • Experience handling cash transactions and operating point-of-sale software (Altru preferred); experience with ticketing systems highly desired., • Ability to work in varied environments including indoor/outdoor and greenhouse settings., • Flexible schedule: weekends, evenings, holidays required., • Trustworthy, reliable, team-oriented, resourceful, positive attitude, enthusiastic about mission and organization., • Computer skills including Microsoft applications., • Physical ability to stand/walk up to 8 hours, lift/carry up to 25 lbs, bend/reach, work in varied temperature/humidity environments.
