Job DescriptionJob Title: Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler safely moves and handles heavy sheet metal using a sit-down forklift and manual lifting, supports shipping, receiving, and inventory activities, and accurately documents material movement in the warehouse management system. This role combines frequent physical work with careful attention to detail in a fast-paced warehouse environment. Responsibilities • Lift and handle heavy sheet metal materials on a daily basis, frequently moving products that weigh around 100 pounds and assisting with larger loads of 300–500 pounds as part of a team., • Operate a sit-down forklift to move extremely long, wide-load sheet metal safely throughout the plant and occasionally outdoors., • Load and unload sheet metal onto and from forklifts, ensuring materials are properly positioned and secure during transport., • Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including staging, organizing, and moving materials for incoming and outgoing orders., • Support inventory control by accurately counting, tracking, and documenting materials using the warehouse management system (WMS)., • Use a computer to enter, update, and verify inventory and shipping/receiving information in the system., • Work closely with the warehouse team to complete daily operational tasks and assist in general warehouse duties as needed., • Review part numbers and documentation with a high level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in the absence of RF scanners., • Follow all safety procedures when lifting, handling materials, and operating forklifts, both indoors and outdoors., • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient warehouse operations.Essential Skills, • At least 1 year of experience operating a forklift, preferably a sit-down forklift, in a warehouse or similar environment., • At least 2 years of experience in inventory, shipping, and receiving functions., • At least 1 year of experience using computers for data entry or warehouse-related tasks., • Ability to frequently lift and move materials weighing around 100 pounds and assist with heavier loads as part of a team., • Proficiency in basic computer skills to work within a warehouse management system (WMS)., • Strong attention to detail when reviewing part numbers and entering data, especially in an environment without RF scanners., • Ability to safely operate a forklift indoors and outdoors, including moving wide-load and long sheet metal., • Reliable work ethic with the ability to work the required schedule and overtime as needed.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Previous experience working with sheet metal or other heavy industrial materials., • Experience in a warehouse environment that relies on manual documentation rather than RF scanners., • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a warehouse team., • Strong communication skills to coordinate with shipping, receiving, and inventory personnel., • Commitment to following safety guidelines and best practices in material handling and forklift operation.Why Work Here? Work Environment The position is based in a warehouse and plant environment where you will work both indoors and outdoors while operating a sit-down forklift and handling heavy sheet metal. The facility is not fully climate controlled; fans are used in hot weather and heaters in cold weather to support comfort. The schedule runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with overtime on Fridays as needed, often providing a fair amount of extra hours. The work involves frequent physical activity, close coordination with a warehouse team, and regular use of a computer-based warehouse management system in a fast-paced, industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SAINT LOUIS, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
