Job Description Job Overview The role of the Subject Matter Expert 1 (HF/UHF) is to provide advanced technical knowledge, and onsite depot level support services for legacy and other communication equipment as defined by the NIWC (formally SPAWAR) consolidated ISEA. Support services include system technical operation, system configuration, preventative maintenance, overhaul, repair, and assistance with configuration management. Provide shipboard technical support as required. Work Model: Onsite/In-Office Responsibilities Essential Duties & Job Functions: • Responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of US Navy or Coast Guard communications and patching equipment., • Provide technical support to diagnose, repair, and overhaul a variety of communication equipment and ancillaries., • Provide expertise in repair, alignment, and overhaul of all variants of AN/URT-23 (C, D, & E)., • Experience with standard Navy patching systems SAS/BAS and Tactical Variant Switch (TVS)., • Strong customer service skills to interface directly with prime customers and other industry partners., • Provide support to NIWC for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) CONUS/OCONUS., • Capable of traveling to CONUS / OCONUS locations to support ISEA requirements., • Capable of going shipboard to support ISEA driven HF/UHF communication requirements., • Other duties as assigned. Accountable For: • We expect this employee to be familiar with Navy communications, switching, and legacy HF/UHF systems and ancillaries., • We expect this employee to be familiar with protocols and procedures relative to performing work at NIWC formally SPAWARSYSCEN or other similar commands, for all facets related to facility requirements such as access control, IT usage, and general housekeeping., • We expect this employee to have experience in and be familiar with work being performed in or around industrial environments such as shipyards, and Naval/Coast Guard bases and piers. As well as various subcontractor Government sites., • We expect the employee to be a self-starter and capable of independent work, • We expect the employee to keep managers and supervisors apprised of their progress, maintain the ability to work well with others, adhere to contract requirements, and comply with company policies and procedures., • Ability to exercise independent judgment., • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters with discretion., • Ability to organize and prioritize own work as well as that of assigned staff, if any., • Ability to research and analyze data., • Good oral and written communication skills, • Must be familiar with test instruments and their application to communications systems. Mandatory: • Must have SECRET Security Clearance., • Must be a U.S. Citizen., • Must have a High School diploma., • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation., • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Navy or Coast Guard communications systems., • Must have experience with shipboard communication center work., • Must be willing to travel CONUS/OCONUS and must be willing to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays, • Good oral and written communication skills., • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test. Preferred: • Prior military training: A-school, C-school., • Technical training for HF/UHF OJT or other., • Provide expertise in the repair, alignment, and overhaul of Navy communications equipment., • Background in shipboard communication, knowledge/expertise with one or more systems listed:, • AN/URT-23C, D, E., • AN/USQ-155 Tactical Variant Switch (TVS)., • SA-2112 BAS & SAS., • AN/WSC-3 (all variants)., • UHF Couplers (OA-9123, 9277, 9277A)., • AN/URC-93., • HF Couplers (AN/SRA-56/7/8, AN/URA-38, RF-2601, CU-2475, etc.), • AN/URC-109 LHD Communications System., • Antenna Tilt Groups (OA-9242, 9242A, 9243, 9243A, CA-1307, PF-109), • Shipboard Antenna systems (whips, fans, SATCOM, MCCP, etc.), • AN/URC-141 (HFSAR)., • AN/USC-42 (MINI-DAMA)., • TD-1271., • Must be able to work outdoors, in labs, and onboard ships worldwide., • Must be able to tolerate heat/cold., • Comfortable working around exposures to hazards in shipyard-type environments., • Ability to work in low-lit areas for long periods of time., • Must be able to respond to emerging requirements, which may involve travel and/or extended work hours. Physical Requirements: • Must be able to safely lift 40lbs., • Must be able to carry tools and test equipment., • Must be able to move around freely onboard ships and shore sites.
