Job Description This customer service position is responsible for assisting customers, businesses, and internal staff with inquiries related to state statutes and commercial motor vehicle regulations. Support is provided via phone, email, web messaging, and in-person at the service counter. Key duties include explaining IRP/IFTA rules, policies, and procedures; processing IRP/IFTA renewals, supplements, and quarterly fuel tax filings; issuing plates, stickers, and IFTA decals; and completing title and registration documents to ensure proper tax collection across jurisdictions. The role also involves regular communication with member jurisdictions throughout the U.S. and Canadian regions. The Department of Public Safety is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the start of employment. DPS does not participate in E-Verify. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications • Math ability sufficient to collect payments, count money, make change, compute and verify totals, add, subtract, multiply, divide., • Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through e-mail or other written correspondence., • English proficiency sufficient for reading, writing and speaking; read, explain and interpret a variety of materials and follow detailed instructions; present clear and concise explanations of governing rules and regulations., • Typing/Keyboarding skills sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy; prepare, edit, and finalize emails, memos, reports, and/or other documents of written communication that are grammatically correct, in proper format, and free of spelling errors., • Data entry skills to input data quickly and accurately, locate and correct data entry errors, read source document and enter data into specific data fields and maintain database, • Knowledge of word processing software (sufficient to create, format, edit, print and save a variety of documents, including invoices, letter, spreadsheets, tables, charts, and graphs)., • Knowledge of IRP/IFTA or commercial Transportation., • Ability to read and interpret statues and knowledge of IRP and IFTA regulations., • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities., • Knowledge of trucking operations, CMV registration, IRP, IFTA, trip permitting, DOT operation authority, FMCSA. Physical Requirements Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
