Position Summary The Fabrication Operations Manager is responsible for the full operational leadership of the fabrication and coatings, including Machine Shop (CNC lasers and press brakes), Welding & Fabrication, Fabrication Quality Control, and Powder Coating. This role owns quality, throughput, schedule adherence, and operational discipline across all fabrication processes. The Fabrication Manager ensures that material flows through the division in strict alignment with engineering requirements, material control procedures, and production schedules. This leader is accountable for delivering complete, accurate, and quality-verified material to final assembly in accordance with quality expectations. This position operates with high autonomy and reports directly to the EVP, of Operations. Core Responsibilities 1. Operational Leadership • Lead and manage all fabrication functions:, • CNC Laser Cutting, • Press Brake Operations, • Welding & Fabrication, • Fabrication Quality Control, • Powder Coating, • Establish daily production priorities in alignment with Planning and Scheduling., • Ensure on-time completion of all fabrication work., • Drive schedule adherence across all shifts. 2. Process Discipline and Control • Enforce strict adherence to:, • Material Movement and Verification Control procedures, • Material Transfer Authorization (MTA) requirements, • QC gates (Weld QC and Final QC), • Eliminate undocumented material movement., • Ensure palletization standards at press brakes are consistently followed., • Prevent process bypassing or informal workarounds. 3. Quality Oversight • Oversee Fabrication QC and Final QC processes., • Ensure weld quality standards meet engineering specifications., • Maintain coating quality standards in powder coating., • Identify and reduce rework, scrap, and material discrepancies., • Support root cause investigations initiated through Discrepancy / Lost Material Reports. 4. Technical Expertise The Fabrication Division Manager must demonstrate working knowledge and leadership competence in: • CNC laser cutting operations and nesting logic, • Press brake forming techniques and bend sequencing, • Welding processes (MIG, TIG, structural weldments), • Fabrication tolerancing and print interpretation, • Powder coating preparation and finish standards 5. Production Throughput & Capacity Management • Balance capacity across cutting, forming, welding, and coating., • Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions., • Ensure efficient manpower allocation across shifts., • Monitor WIP levels and prevent material stagnation., • Drive measurable improvements in cycle time and throughput. 6. Schedule Adherence and Planning Alignment • Partner with Planners to ensure material readiness aligns with production schedules., • Escalate risks to management proactively., • Maintain strict accountability for meeting committed fabrication deadlines., • Enforce daily and weekly production metrics review. 7. People Leadership • Directly manage supervisors and leads within Machine Shop, Welding, QC, and Powder Coating., • Develop and maintain a high-discipline, high-accountability culture., • Drive performance management and skill development., • Ensure cross-training across fabrication disciplines., • Promote safety-first culture across all operations. 8. Continuous Improvement • Drive process standardization and operational excellence initiatives., • Reduce scrap and material loss., • Improve documentation accuracy and traceability., • Optimize layout and material flow., • Support Lean manufacturing and efficiency improvements. 9. This role is responsible for: • Implementing asset-level OEE measurement for all major production equipment., • Defining and standardizing Planned Production Time, downtime categories, performance rates, and quality criteria., • Ensuring accurate and disciplined daily data capture for Availability, Performance, and Quality metrics., • Establishing clear downtime classification codes and enforcing reporting integrity., • Reviewing OEE performance daily with supervisors and conducting formal weekly performance analysis., • Identifying and prioritizing top loss drivers (downtime, speed loss, scrap/rework)., • Developing and executing corrective action plans to improve equipment utilization and throughput., • Maintaining visual performance dashboards at the department level., • Utilizing OEE data to support capacity planning, manpower allocation, and capital expenditure decisions. Sustained improvement in OEE performance across the Fabrication and Coating Division is a core expectation of this position. Qualifications and Experience • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in fabrication manufacturing, • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing multi-functional fabrication teams, • Proven experience with CNC lasers, press brakes, welding operations, and powder coating, • Demonstrated success managing production schedules in a high-mix manufacturing environment, • Strong knowledge of fabrication quality standards, • Experience operating in ISO-regulated environments preferred The successful candidate will demonstrate: • High operational discipline, • Strong technical credibility, • Decisive leadership under pressure, • Clear and direct communication, • Relentless commitment to schedule adherence, • Ability to enforce standards consistently Compensation and Benefits Pay Grade: G7 Base Salary: $110,000 – $140,000 DOE 401(k): Eligibility after 180 days with 4% company match Benefits: Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Paid Holidays: Industry standards Paid Time Off: Two weeks (10 days) annually
