Job Summary The Prep Foreman primarily oversees excavation, grading, pipe installation, stone placement, milling and other miscellaneous operations. This is a working foreman role, requiring both hands-on participation in daily operations and effective leadership of a prep crew. Responsibilities include managing people, equipment, materials, safety, quality, productivity, and overall job performance. The foreman will be expected to work extended hours, including weekends and occasional nights, to meet project deadlines. In addition to supervising, this individual is responsible for motivating the team, actively training and mentoring crew members, demonstrating proper techniques and ensuring tasks are completed to standard. The foreman is accountable for the care and utilization of assigned equipment, materials, and crew on each job site. This role requires close collaboration with customers, project managers, general contractors, and subcontractors to ensure work is completed accurately, safely, and on schedule. The Prep Foreman reports directly to the Superintendent while coordinating with Project Managers assigned to specific jobs. Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities • Oversees excavation, grading, pipe installation, stone placement, milling, and related operations for assigned crew, • Leads a crew of employees, which includes scheduling, training, coaching, and motivating team members, • Assists the Superintendent with employee relations, documenting personnel issues, administering disciplinary action and providing performance feedback to crew members, • Coordinates job site activities with other crews, contractors, and customers, • Ensures assigned equipment is properly operated, maintained, and serviced, • Maintains compliance with job site safety requirements and company policies, • Ensures finished product meets quality standards and customer expectations, • Performs basic layout, surveying, calculating pipe and stone grades, and calculating stone, asphalt and pipe quantities, • Maintains accurate records including dailies, material tickets, equipment maintenance requests, equipment orders and releases, and quality control plans and logbooks, • Communicates and resolves work-related issues such as grades, milled surfaces, and personnel concerns, • Inspects materials and corrects irregularities to maintain product quality, • Assists crew with all phases of work, including hands-on labor and equipment operation, • Develops and trains crew members in prep operations and equipment use, • Operates and loads/unloads construction equipment as needed, • Makes timely decisions to resolve job site problems effectively, • Completes dailies to accurate cost coding for equipment, labor, and materials, • Engages in regular communication with plant operators, quality control staff, dispatchers, superintendents, INDOT personnel, and subcontractors, • Assists others in department as needed., • Demonstrated knowledge of operating a variety of construction equipment, • Knowledge of set-up and use of transit or laser, • Skills in general construction math and mechanical functions, • Knowledge of road construction techniques and ability to understand state and county specifications, • Ability to read and understand blueprints, • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with crew members, INDOT, and customers, • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites, • Ability to work with technical equipment and devices, • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, • Flexibility to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, • Ability to develop and maintain peer and customer partnerships, • Fair, honest, and straightforward in dealing with others, • High ethical standards, accuracy, and attention to detail, • Ability to sustain energetic work pace with frequent interruptions, • Willingness and ability to abide by Drug & Alcohol-Free Workplace policies, • Exceptional attendance, punctuality, dependability, reliability, and work ethic, • Demonstrates consistent use of PPE and enforcement with crew, • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, • High school diploma or GED required, • Minimum of 5 years' experience in excavation, grading, stone placement, and pipe installation work, • Previous hands-on construction experience preferred, with knowledge of heavy highway work, • Must have or be willing & able to get and maintain a valid Class A CDL Driver's License, • Lifting/Carrying: Up to 50 lbs. frequently, • Pushing/Pulling: Up to 50 lbs. frequently, • Movement: Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, and lifting, • Use of Hands: Frequent use for handling tools and equipment, • 100% field-based role on active construction job sites, • Works outdoors in all weather and seasonal conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, dust, mud, etc.), • Works evenings, weekends, long hours, and overtime with little or no notice, • Directly supervises a prep crew, • Provides leadership, performance feedback, training, and direction to ensure safe and efficient operations How to Apply: Online: Visit to access our online Employment Application by clicking "View Open Positions and Apply Now!".
