Job DescriptionJob Title: Code Fitter WelderJob Description The Code Fitter Welder is responsible for fitting and welding code-compliant coils that require 100% X-ray inspection. This role involves interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints, planning layouts and welding operations, and producing high-quality welded assemblies that meet strict specifications and quality standards. The position requires strong technical welding skills, precise measurement abilities, and meticulous documentation of production activities. Responsibilities • Fit and weld code-compliant coils that require 100% X-ray inspection, ensuring all welds meet applicable standards., • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind, and bolt components into position to prepare assemblies for welding., • Examine workpieces for defects and verify dimensions using straightedges, templates, and measuring tools to ensure conformance with specifications., • Measure dimensions of completed products and workpieces to confirm compliance with engineering and quality requirements., • Develop templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information., • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations for coils and related components., • Lay out and fit nozzles, supports, and couplings per blueprint into coils with precise alignment and positioning., • Remove rough spots and imperfections from workpieces using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers to achieve required finishes., • Maintain and complete all required records and production documentation accurately and in a timely manner., • Read and interpret blueprints and use strong mathematical skills to perform measurements, calculations, and layout work., • Use and read levels, tape measures, protractors, and various tools to ensure accurate setup, alignment, and fabrication., • Work independently on assigned tasks while maintaining strong organizational habits and attention to detail., • Communicate effectively in written and verbal form to coordinate work, report progress, and document results., • Pass and maintain applicable welding tests, including code-specific qualifications required for the role.Essential Skills, • Ability to pass applicable code welding tests, including Code Section 8 welding test on 2" schedule 160 carbon steel, 6G pipe test using GTAW (TIG) all the way out and FCAW (Fluxcore)., • Proficiency in GTAW (TIG) welding on carbon steel pipe in 6G position., • Proficiency in FCAW (Fluxcore) welding processes., • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings., • Strong mathematical skills for layout, measurement, and template development., • Ability to use and accurately read levels, tape measures, protractors, and various hand and power tools., • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)., • Approximately 4 to 5 years, and up to 5 years, of relevant welding and fitting experience and/or training in a metal fabrication or similar environment., • Strong organizational skills to manage tasks, documentation, and workflow., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision., • Ability to examine workpieces for defects and verify dimensions to ensure conformance to specifications., • Ability to safely operate grinders, files, and other finishing tools to remove rough spots and prepare workpieces.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • 2-year technical degree or vocational certificate in welding is preferred., • Experience developing templates and models for welding projects using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information., • Experience analyzing engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations., • Experience in fitting nozzles, supports, and couplings into coils per blueprint requirements., • Attention to detail and quality focus in a code-compliant welding environment., • Comfort working in a busy metal fabrication setting with multiple tasks and priorities.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role follows a full-time schedule from Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with additional work hours and weekend shifts as job duties demand. The position is based in a non-temperature-controlled metal fabrication shop environment that includes loud noises, dust, dirt, and metal particles typical of manufacturing facilities. You regularly work around welding, grinding, and fabrication equipment and must consistently follow safety protocols. All employees are required to wear personal protective equipment, including noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, safety harness when applicable, full-face grinding shield, welding hood, and OSHA-compliant safety boots or shoes while in the manufacturing facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SAND SPRINGS, OK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
