We are seeking an experienced, full-time Senior Government Accounting Specialist to join our Finance/Accounting department. The Senior Government Accounting Specialist is a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting professional responsible for supporting compliance with U.S. Government accounting regulations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role works closely with the Director of Accounting and plays a critical part in executing day-to-day accounting operations within a government contracting environment. This is a senior-level individual contributor role with no direct reports. The ideal candidate will have Federal Government accounting experience within a professional services environment and working knowledge of DCAA, DCMA, FAR, CAS, and GAAP requirements applicable to government contractors. This role will be based in San Diego, California, and will work in an onsite-hybrid schedule with an expectation of being in the office a minimum of 4 days per week Main Responsibilities: • Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis., • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules., • Prepare and post accounting entries to registers, journals, and logs to ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of accounts., • Support compliance with FAR and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) requirements through accurate transaction processing and documentation., • Support preparation, implementation, and review of government contract billings., • Ensure billing accuracy in accordance with contract terms., • Assist in preparing documentation and schedules in support of DCAA and DCMA audits, as directed by leadership., • Support accounts receivable and accounts payable to ensure accuracy and timeliness., • Prepare and submit state excise and sales and use tax returns., • Assist in maintaining ERP system accuracy and compliance with government standards., • Collaborate with internal departments to ensure proper financial reporting and communication., • Perform other accounting duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field., • 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a U.S. Federal government contracting environment for professional services., • Experience with cost-reimbursable, T&M, and fixed-price contracts., • Experience working in a government contractor accounting environment with an understanding of FAR, DCAA, and DCMA standards., • Knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and their practical application., • Experience with government accounting software such as PROCAS, Deltek, SAP, or Oracle., • Knowledge of the PIEE operating system preferred., • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP., • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy., • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a deadline-driven environment., • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis), • Must pass a drug test, credit and financial check, MVR check, education verification, and criminal background check., • Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. Company Summary TOP REASONS TO WORK WITH US: • Safety: The goal of the KMEA safety team is zero incidents.
