Job DescriptionJob Title: Shop Foreman Job Description The Shop Foreman leads the service department to keep vehicles in service by overseeing daily operations, managing staff performance, and ensuring high-quality maintenance and repair work. This role combines hands-on supervision with strategic planning, using key performance indicators to drive efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction in a dynamic depot environment. Responsibilities • Forecast goals and objectives for the service department and actively work to achieve them, with a strong focus on keeping vehicles in service., • Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all service department staff to build a high-performing team., • Maintain all reporting systems required by leadership and ensure information is accurate and timely., • Monitor and control department performance using appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs), including technician productivity and efficiency., • Promote harmony and teamwork within the department and in all interactions with customers., • Stay current with and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations affecting service operations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements., • Ensure strict adherence to warranty and policy procedures and address any issues promptly., • Account for all documents related to service operations, ensuring nothing is missing and all paperwork is processed correctly., • Lead daily huddle meetings to align the team on priorities, safety, and performance expectations., • Direct and schedule the activities of all department employees to meet operational and customer needs., • Facilitate and conduct technical training and coordinate sending employees to appropriate external training programs., • Monitor technician daily productivity, efficiency, and other KPIs set by leadership, and take action to improve performance where needed., • Coordinate with the parts manager to monitor and follow up on parts orders, ensuring timely availability of parts for maintenance and repair work., • Maintain high-quality service repairs and minimize comebacks by conducting periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality., • Prioritize keeping vehicles in service, especially during peak times, by managing workflow and resources effectively., • Stay informed about new equipment and tools, evaluate their suitability, and recommend purchases when beneficial to the operation., • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and safe, and promote good housekeeping practices across the shop., • Maintain strong working relationships with vocational and technical schools and third-party workforce development partners to support recruitment efforts., • Oversee the proper care, storage, and inventory of special tools and ensure they are available and in good condition when needed., • Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies and practices and addressing hazards promptly., • Maintain a professional appearance and promote professionalism throughout the department., • Perform other tasks as assigned to support the overall success of the service operation.Essential Skills, • At least 5 years of experience as a shop foreman or in a comparable supervisory role in a service or maintenance environment., • Proven ability to supervise and lead automotive or vehicle maintenance operations., • Strong background in automotive repair and maintenance, including oversight of service quality and repairs., • Demonstrated experience in maintenance supervision, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating work., • Experience using and managing key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive department performance., • Ability to forecast department goals and objectives and align resources to meet them., • Experience working with or supporting electric vehicle (EV) maintenance operations., • Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, reporting systems, and tool inventory., • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements related to service operations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know., • Ability to conduct and facilitate technical training and support staff development., • Strong communication skills to lead daily huddles, provide feedback, and foster teamwork., • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and professional work environment.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience managing technician productivity and efficiency in a high-volume shop environment., • background in coordinating with parts departments to ensure timely parts availability., • Familiarity with warranty and policy procedures within a service or maintenance operation., • Experience collaborating with vocational or technical schools and workforce development partners for recruitment., • Comfort working with new tools, equipment, and technologies and recommending improvements to leadership., • Ability to travel for training, including participation in a structured, multi-week technical training program.Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work at a depot in San Francisco supporting the maintenance of incoming autonomous vehicle fleets. The role is scheduled on the B shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, with Monday and Tuesday off, providing a consistent late-shift work pattern. The environment centers around an active shop setting where vehicles are serviced, repaired, and returned to operation, with a strong emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and organization. You will work closely with a certified technical trainer and participate in a structured training process, including a two-week training program in Arizona. Training is delivered in formal classes with approximately 6–9 participants per class, offering a focused and collaborative learning environment. The depot uses modern tools and equipment suited for advanced vehicle and EV maintenance, and you are expected to maintain a professional appearance while working in a hands-on, operational setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Francisco, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
