ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A De Marillac Academy teacher is a talented and committed teacher ready to contribute to a positive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and socio-emotional wellness for all students. DMA teachers serve as an academic, emotional, and spiritual model in the Lasallian-Vincentian formation of students. In addition to providing direct classroom instruction, teachers partner closely with our Academic Resource program and school counseling teams to provide holistic care and communication to students and their families. Teachers also serve as mentors to the Associate teacher on their grade-level team. Teachers strive to create an environment where students can achieve their highest potential, as measured by demonstrable academic and social gains. The De Marillac Academic Calendar includes summer school and is 11 months long. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Planning and Teaching • Teach one or more core subjects (Language Arts, History, Math, Religion, and Science), • Utilize researched based, exemplary teaching practices to achieve student growth, • Use relevant educational technology and programs to support instruction, • Utilize a variety of teaching methodologies to create an engaging and safe classroom setting, • In partnership with the associate teacher, provide differentiated instruction, • Provide reasonable accommodations as stated in student ISP, • Prepare students to lead prayers for morning assemblies, • Develop and implement curriculum maps and weekly lesson plans, • Develop and implement classroom community activities, • Utilize testing results and data such as STAR to inform and differentiate instruction based on individual and class results Grading • Assess, monitor, and evaluate student progress towards student goals, • Prepare progress reports/report cards, keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary, • Track grades, records, and provides consistent feedback to students weekly Classroom Management • Maintain effective classroom management and cultivates an atmosphere conducive to learning, • Monitor student socio-emotional health and well-being and partner with students, families, and administration to develop healthy relationships, self-care, and emotional regulation, • Establish and maintain school expectations of student behavior and classroom environment utilizing restorative justice practices, • Keeps an accurate record of attendance and tardies, • Keeps an emergency lesson plan and current substitute folder in case of an unexpected absence Communication • Communicates professionally with and within 24 hours, • Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, and families for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, • Schedule and facilitate class meetings and conferences with families, • Schedules field trips and/or advises grade level lead teacher when field trips are planned, • Provide student notes and participate in grade level care council meetings Meetings and Events • Attend weekly faculty/staff meetings and teacher talks, • Attend and participate in coaching sessions, • Attends priority school events as listed in the faculty-staff handbook, • Attend all professional development and faith formation meetings, • Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of discussing relevant issues, developing skills, and learning best practices required to perform functions., • Participate in staff orientation prior to the start of the school year Core Characteristics • Openness resourceful, and a sense of humor Working Conditions & Physical/Other Requirements • Substitute for other teachers as needed, • Prefects and provide, • Establish a mentoring relationship and nurture the professional growth of the associate teacher, • Participate in formal and informal assessments, • Assist in emergency teaching or coverage needs, as needed, • Supervise breaks/lunches, community time, and enrichment activities, as assigned, • Participates in ongoing accreditation and reports as instructed by the principal, • Participate in school-sponsored events and activities, • Document learning through photographs, or other creative means to highlight the story of learning and share with the community, • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator, • Requires some long hours working at the computer, • Proficient in Microsoft 365 products, Google Suite, and Google Classroom,, • Proficient in Alma, • Some evening and weekend responsibilities, • Ability to lift 30 pound REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION • Bachelor’s Degree, • Teaching Credential (or in progress of obtaining one), • 2-3 years of teaching experience, • Experience working with middle school youth and families, • Passionate commitment to social justice and educational equity, • Openness to embracing and promoting the Lasallian Vincentian mission and identity of De Marillac Academy, • Strong interest in building community and fostering relationships, • Proficient in Microsoft 365 products, Google Suite, and Google Classroom, • Requires some long hours working at the computer, • Some evening and weekend responsibilities, • Ability to lift 30 pounds Preferred • Master’s Degree, • Bilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese and English, • Familiarity and sensitivity with working with underserved and historically marginalized communities. COMPENSATION Salary range for this role is $82,967-$128,847. A comprehensive benefits package is provided, including a transportation stipend. Opportunity for weekly remote work day available.
