Job Description Aerotek is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic Responsibilities • Perform sanitary welding, MIG, TIG, and stick welding, along with fabrication of components and structures to support production and utilities equipment., • Switch between welding/fabrication and maintenance work as operational needs require., • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on fermentation and downstream equipment, including fermenters/bioreactors, transfer pumps, positive displacement pumps, valves, homogenizers, decanters/centrifuges, heat exchangers, air compressors, vacuum systems, and packaging lines such as conveyors, wrappers, and fillers., • Service utilities that support including steam/boilers, condensate systems, clean and plant water, CIP supply and return, process air, CO₂ venting and abatement, and chilled or glycol loops., • Inspect, align, and rebuild rotating equipment, including bearings, seals, couplings, and gearboxes, and perform precision shaft alignment and balancing., • Support CIP (Clean-in-Place) and SIP (Steam-in-Place) readiness by verifying spray ball coverage, valve actuation, temperature, time, and flow targets, gasket integrity, and leak tightness., • Diagnose mechanical failures using root cause techniques and replace worn parts such as seals, gaskets, belts, chains, and sprockets, while correcting piping and mechanical fit-ups to meet 3A/ASME sanitary standards where applicable., • Read and interpret P&IDs, OEM manuals, schematics, exploded views, and equipment specifications to guide maintenance and repair activities., • Collaborate with controls and electrical engineering teams on issues involving PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and instrumentation, applying basic electrical and mechatronic aptitude., • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers, and apply rigging, hoisting, alignment, and torque procedures during maintenance and repair work., • Apply strong safety practices, including proper use of LOTO procedures, confined space protocols, PPE, and safe handling of chemicals and caustics used in CIP processes., • Document maintenance activities and follow established maintenance procedures, including use of a CMMS to record work orders and equipment history., • Support operations in a food and FDA-regulated environment by maintaining equipment in a manner that upholds GMP and food-safety standards., • Work a 2nd shift schedule and perform overtime as needed to support production demands. Essential Skills • 3+ years of experience as an industrial or mechanical maintenance technician in food and beverage, fermentation, chemical, or process manufacturing environments., • Strong mechanical maintenance skills, including troubleshooting and repair of industrial equipment., • Proficiency with pumps, valves, pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, gearboxes, steam systems, and heat exchangers., • Experience performing preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on production and utility equipment., • Hands-on welding experience, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding, with the ability to perform sanitary welding and basic sanitary fitting work., • Experience with sanitary or aseptic piping, tri-clamp fittings, gaskets, and sanitary welding or fitting practices., • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, OEM manuals, and maintenance procedures., • Comfort using a CMMS to track and document maintenance activities., • Hands-on skills with precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers, and familiarity with rigging, hoisting, alignment tools, and torque procedures., • Demonstrated strong safety track record, including knowledge and application of LOTO, confined space procedures, PPE use, and safe handling of chemicals and caustics used in CIP., • Basic electrical and mechatronic aptitude, with the ability to collaborate on issues involving PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and instrumentation., • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in wet, warm, or cold environments near CIP and steam systems, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Food or FDA-regulated manufacturing experience, especially in yeast or fermentation operations involving fermenters, aeration systems, and CIP/SIP cycles., • Experience with boilers and cooling towers, including boiler operation, steam traps, and condensate return systems., • Exposure to ammonia refrigeration systems (such as RETA I/II) or chilled-water systems, and awareness of PSM practices., • Experience with welding and fabrication for stainless steel, including TIG welding for sanitary welds, and basic machining skills., • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including work with 24VDC sensors, proximity switches, solenoids, and VFD parameter checks., • Certifications such as OSHA 10 or 30, Confined Space, Aerial Lift, Forklift, LOTO, and First Aid/CPR are highly beneficial.
