Job Description Estimator — Industrial Demolition & Environmental Services Location: St. Louis, MO (National Travel Required) Company: Spirtas Worldwide Position Overview Spirtas Worldwide is seeking a motivated Estimator to support project bidding and pre-construction planning for industrial demolition, environmental remediation, heavy civil, and complex construction projects across the United States. This role involves analyzing project documents, visiting job sites, evaluating hazardous and structural conditions, and developing production-based cost estimates for demolition, dismantling, excavation, environmental remediation, and industrial renovation projects. The Estimator will work closely with company leadership, operations teams, and field personnel to develop demolition methodologies, evaluate project risks, and prepare competitive proposals. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is tech savvy, detail-oriented, and a strong communicator who is comfortable working in fast-paced environments involving large equipment, complex logistics, and national project travel. Key Responsibilities • Review project drawings, specifications, bid documents, and environmental reports, • Perform quantity takeoffs and production-based cost estimates for demolition, excavation, abatement, and site development work, • Travel to job sites across the United States to evaluate project conditions, logistics, hazards, and demolition methodology, • Develop demolition means and methods for structural removal, dismantling, and industrial facility decommissioning, • Evaluate and price hazardous materials abatement including asbestos, lead, contaminated soils, and universal waste, • Develop estimates for heavy equipment operations including excavators, cranes, shears, breakers, and specialty demolition equipment, • Work with subcontractors, trucking firms, specialty contractors, and disposal facilities to obtain competitive pricing, • Evaluate scrap recovery opportunities and asset salvage value where applicable, • Prepare detailed bid proposals including scopes of work, exclusions, clarifications, and project assumptions, • Assist leadership in evaluating project risk, logistics, sequencing, and constructability, • Maintain estimating records, cost databases, and historical pricing information, • Collaborate with project managers and operations teams during project handoff and pre-construction planning, • Participate in post-bid reviews and pricing strategy discussions Technical Estimating Responsibilities • Use RSMeans and industry cost databases to benchmark national pricing, • Develop labor production rates and equipment productivity models, • Prepare estimates for projects including: * Industrial demolition * Structural demolition * Interior demolition and renovation * Site clearing and excavation * Environmental remediation * Emergency response demolition * Disaster recovery work * Industrial dismantling and asset recovery • Evaluate transportation logistics, waste disposal, and environmental compliance costs, • Assist with bid bonds, performance bonds, and insurance requirements, • Coordinate with engineering consultants on demolition engineering, shoring, and sequencing Performance Expectations The Estimator will be responsible for supporting the successful pursuit of complex demolition and environmental projects nationwide. Performance expectations include: • Developing accurate and competitive cost estimates, • Identifying project risks and logistical challenges early in the pursuit process, • Supporting the company’s ability to pursue large, complex demolition and redevelopment opportunities, • Collaborating effectively with operations and leadership to ensure successful project execution after award Qualifications • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills, • Tech savvy and comfortable using estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and cloud collaboration platforms, • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and leadership teams, • Ability to read and interpret: * Structural drawings * Civil drawings * Environmental reports * Industrial facility layouts • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, • Familiarity with: * RSMeans or similar cost databases * Bluebeam or digital takeoff tools * Excel-based estimating models • Willingness to travel nationally for project evaluations, • Ability to work in industrial environments and around hazardous conditions Preferred Experience (Not Required) • Industrial demolition, • Power plants, • Refineries, • Manufacturing facilities, • Heavy commercial structures, • Environmental remediation, • Emergency response projects Compensation Competitive salary, performance bonus potential, and opportunity to grow within a national demolition and environmental services company.
