Job Description Job Title: Steel Welder Pay: $25/HR - $30/HR Location: South Sacramento Shift: 4/10 Monday - Thursday / Friday OT and Sat during peak season Job Description This role focuses on structural steel welding using the flux core process on I-beams, wide flange beams, and complex tube steel columns that form the framework of multi-story buildings. You will perform production welds on steel and mild steel components of varying thicknesses, ensuring strong, precise, and code-compliant welds that meet fabrication and blueprint specifications. Responsibilities • Perform structural steel welding using the flux core process on I-beams, beams, and complex tube steel columns used in 2- to 3-story building structures., • Execute production welds on steel and mild steel components ranging from approximately 3/8 inch to 1 inch in thickness., • Use flux core welding wire, including 3/32" NR-311 or similar, in accordance with project requirements and welding procedures., • Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols to ensure accurate layout and weld placement., • Follow applicable welding standards and guidelines, including AWS-related practices, to produce high-quality, structurally sound welds., • Inspect welds visually and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality, consistency, and adherence to specifications., • Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment and related tools safely and efficiently., • Work closely with fabrication and shop personnel to coordinate tasks and meet production schedules., • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures in a steel yard environment. Essential Skills • At least 3 years of structural steel welding experience using the flux core process., • Proven experience performing production welds on steel and mild steel components., • Ability to read and interpret weld symbols, blueprints, and fabrication drawings., • Hands-on experience welding structural steel members such as I-beams, beams, and tube steel columns., • Proficiency with flux core welding processes, including use of wires such as NR-311., • Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication practices and alignment with AWS-related standards., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, structurally sound welds. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Familiarity with nickel and other steel-related materials used in structural applications., • Experience working in a steel yard or structural steel fabrication environment., • Ability to work from and follow detailed fabrication instructions and shop drawings., • Solid understanding of safe work practices related to welding and handling structural steel. Work Environment The role is based in a steel yard environment where most of the work area is covered but open on the south and east sides, exposing you to varying outdoor conditions. You will work around structural steel beams, columns, and fabrication equipment, using flux core welding machines and related tools throughout the shift. The setting is industrial and production-oriented, requiring adherence to safety procedures, appropriate personal protective equipment, and readiness to work around heavy materials and active fabrication operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sacramento, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
