Job Title: Senior Development Lead Reports To: Engineering Director Site: Newcastle - three/four days a month in the office with a small team of developers Rate: £600 to £650 per day IR35 status: INSIDE - so paid through an umbrella Status - British or ILR (Indefinite leave to remain) in the UK is eesential Sector - Utilities or Energy experience essential Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Development Lead to manage a small, highly skilled development team responsible for delivering software changes, resolving support tickets, and implementing configuration updates. You will work closely with Project Managers, senior stakeholders, and other Development Leads in a fast-paced, high-demand environment, ensuring delivery excellence and technical quality. Key Responsibilities • Team Leadership & Management, • Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of developers., • Allocate and manage workload across the team., • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching., • Technical Delivery, • Oversee the delivery of software enhancements, bug fixes, and configuration changes., • Ensure timely resolution of support tickets in line with SLAs., • Maintain high coding standards and ensure adherence to best practices., • Stakeholder & Project Liaison, • Collaborate with Project Managers to plan and prioritise work., • Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders regarding progress, risks, and issues., • Coordinate with other senior development leads to ensure aligned delivery., • Process & Quality, • Implement and improve development processes to ensure efficiency., • Oversee code reviews, testing, and deployment processes., • Proven experience in a Development Lead or Senior Developer role., • Strong technical background in:, • C#.NET, • Oracle & SQL, • RabbitMQ (or similar messaging technologies), • Experience managing small teams in a fast-paced environment., • Excellent communication skills, particularly in dealing with senior, non-technical stakeholders., • Experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments., • Familiarity with ITIL-based support and change processes., • Proactive and solutions-focused mindset., • Ability to balance technical depth with leadership duties., • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail. Key Responsibilities: • Translate business and technical requirements into an architectural blueprint to achieve business objectives and document all solution architecture design, • Understand business drivers and business capabilities and determine corresponding enterprise solution designs and change requirements to drive the organisation's targeted business outcomes., • Solution Design: canframe a problem and produce architectural representations that enable different teams to have a shared understanding of problems throughout the project or system life cycle., • Strategic alignment and transformation enablement: Collaborate with business leaders, programme leaders and strategists to shape transformation roadmaps grounded in capability maturity and value delivery., • Stakeholder Engagement on Governance: Build relationships with stakeholders across different business or technical areas in the organisation, • Continuing Professional Development: stay up to date on technology trends and approaches Skills, Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications Essential: • 5+ years of direct experience in business architecture, enterprise architecture or strategic transformation roles., • Strong background in creating business capability maps, value streams ad operating model blueprints., • Experience working in complex, regulated environments with both business and technology transformation portfolios, • A broad understanding of architecture framework such as TOGAF, BIZBOK, etc, • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and facilitating cross functional design and planning sessions Desirable: • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information-technology, software engineering, related discipline, • Professional certifications such as TOGAF, BIZBOK, SAFe for Architects etc., • Previous experience of working as part of a UK Distribution Network Operator or similar regulated sector.
