Event Security Officer - Cheltenham Racecourse The Venue Cheltenham Racecourse is a venue like no other, the home of Jump Racing. Join us for the 2025/2026 Season! The role: You will be working as an Event Security Officer for this prestigious venue, representing Carlisle Support Services as the chosen supplier of event stewards and security for Cheltenham Racecourse. We are looking for people with good communication skills to help us provide a professional, efficient and safe service to our client at the racecourse throughout the season. This will be a fun and lively experience with around 1 million patrons attending throughout the season needing your help! The responsibilities of an Event Security Officer involves: · Being polite and professional to members of the public and the client · Retaining and using information relating to safety and for evacuation purposes · Providing world class customer service to ensure our visitors have a positive and memorable experience · Retaining and using information relating to key areas on site (medical room, toilets, bars etc) · Ensuring the safety of spectators by being observant and reporting incidents (venue capacities, intoxication, site breaches, medical incidents) · Delivering the brief given by the supervisor (access control, wayfinding, ticket resolution) Previous experience is not essential as we can train anyone to our standards providing you meet the below criteria: · Approachable person with a focus on providing excellent customer service · Willingness to learn new skills and procedures · Able to take direction and follow instructions · Able to communicate effectively, both spoken and written English · Smart, presentable and punctual to time and attendance · A commitment to work at least 50% of the season dates. · A valid and current SIA Door Supervisor, Security Guarding or Close Protection License. · The ability to comply with the vetting standard BS7858, which is a requirement of our SIA Approved Contractor Scheme membership. Successful candidates will need to attend a pre-start induction and provide original documentation for detailed screening and vetting processes. This could include passport, driving licence, utility bill dated in the last 3 months, HMRC letter, original bank statement, original payslip, birth certificate or a valid share code. Your core role will include but not be limited to the following activities: • Ensure sufficient levels of qualified and competent officers are maintained to meet the current and projected future levels of personnel required through rigorous resource planning and recruitment plans, • Creation and implementation of all Raceday and other operational documentation including Risk Assessments (Health, Safety and Security), Event plans (Crowd, Staffing and Operations), Policies and Procedures, • Ensure all security officers and stewards are deployed in line with the rigours of the Private Security Industry Act 2001 in terms of aligned licensing and training for officers and issues of screening for matters of safeguarding, • Ensure all security officers have safe systems of work for all tasks undertaken which are communicated and understood by all team members and documented as being so., • Promote a secure and safe working environment at each site by carrying out regular risk assessments and security reviews, • Communicate Health and Safety processes and policies to all staff and ensure they remain adequately trained including contract specific training, • Develop a strong year-round recruitment and induction plan, • Direct staff and monitor performance via an effective performance review process and managing any staff performance issues promptly and in line with HR guidelines, • Act as an operational lead on major events where required and develop competent supervisors for small events, • Create a positive environment and culture where employees choose to work, • Agree event deployments and costings for each individual event in partnership, • Prepare and sign off all POs in line with company procedures, • Establish and encourage proactive working relationships with the key client stakeholders and local community, • Produce race day fulfilment forecasts, documentation and accreditation data, • Maintain a running log of event de-brief notes, • Financial performance – assist with the compilation of the monthly P&L, • SIA Licensed, • Excellent understanding of the UK Security industry, • Knowledge and experience of running event operations - Essential, • A good people manager, able to motivate and optimise outputs from team members., • Keen commercial skills with the ability to understand and control a P&L, • Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deliver to deadlines, • Must hold a full UK driving license, • Flexibility around working hours and patterns, • You should be personable and proactive, • Monday-Friday 8-5, weekend work for all race days as needed and occasional evening work, with days off in lieu given.
