Job overview The Office of the Chief Scientific Officer encourages better use of science to address our greatest health challenges and shape technological advances to ensure people are living happier, healthier lives The Paediatric Hearing Service Improvement Programme was launched to address the need for service improvements. In collaboration with ICBs, providers, NHS regions, Care Quality Commission, and professional bodies, we are working to ensure that these services deliver safe, high-quality, and timely care for all children The post holder will work with NHSE and DHSC to provide specialist knowledge to deliver the best outcomes for patients. They will specifically provide expert clinical advice to support Hearing Services and associated conditions across the care pathway. They will contribute to model of provision review of audiology services across the whole care pathway and service configurations for hearing services. They will work with stakeholders to understand challenges required to implement improvements in patient care, providing subject matter expertise, leadership and strategic input The role will support senior leaders to provide clinical advice in four respects: Clinical advice to drive service transformation Clinical advice to support identification and delivery of our corporate clinical priorities (national and regional level) Clinical advice to support the commissioning of services Clinical advice on ad hoc issues to support parliamentary accountability. Main duties of the job Key areas of responsibility will include: Considering and informing how services are delivered across the whole care pathway including NHS providers and independent private sector providers. Understanding issues arising, areas of services needing improved across all types of providers NHS and independent Reviewing technologies for delivering services Providing expertise and advice on hearing services Reviewing waiting lists and waiting times and devising strategies for how these could be improved and how referrals can be optimised. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Educated to degree level in medicine or a relevant healthcare science discipline Holds a relevant postgraduate qualification in the speciality Desirable criteria Holds membership of a relevant association e.g. Royal College Holds or is willing to work towards Fellowship or Associate Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. Knowledge and experience Essential criteria Experienced clinical practitioner with credibility and the ability to command the respect of all clinical and non-clinical professionals across primary, secondary and community care Leadership experience in the NHS/DHSC Desirable criteria Significant experience of working at a national or sub-national level as a clinical leader in the specialty Track record of delivering major change programme to transform clinical services. Skills and capabilities Essential criteria Excellent leadership skills The ability to build excellent collaborative networks and develop effective and mutually supportive relationships with key partners within and throughout organisations. Desirable criteria Apply skill and experience to drive quality improvement to achieve the required domain outcome. Ability to communicate with stakeholders and the media and convey complex messages to different recipient groups.
