Insurance Operations Officer (Mat Cover; up to 15 mths) Location : London Office / Hybrid Contract Type: Maternity Cover up to 15 months Hours: Full time Salary : Competitive The MDU is a leading provider of medical malpractice indemnity solutions in the general and specialist medical sectors. This role will support the expansion of our business to provide medical practice liability and other insurance products to the corporate healthcare sector, through insurance intermediaries and will be a market facing role. This will consist of liaising with our producing brokers customer base and potentially other third-party suppliers, whilst also providing support and assistance to insurance underwriting colleagues in order to manage and maintain the flow of new and renewal business. Main areas of responsibility Leading on aspects of Insurance Operations and providing Insurance Operations support to the Head of Insurance Development (HoID). Supporting HoID in respect of business analytics and operational process improvement As part of this hybrid role, deploy underwriting skills as underwriting assistant in support of MDU Insurance Solutions sustainable growth, high quality risk assessment, risk selection and rating. The underwriting assistant role includes the following specific tasks & responsibilities: Assisting the Insurance Management team with general administrative support The post holder will be expected to undertake any other duties for the MDU within the jobholders capabilities. Highly competent IT skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel (Intermediate/Expert) and PowerPoint; Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver superior and professional service standards as part of the extended underwriting team. Intimate awareness of the MDU Insurance Solutions business plan. Proactive mindset to engage and seek out training opportunities to further role holder personal development (for example, underwriting, analytics, London Market, in-house training, CII etc). Complying with all related legal and regulatory requirements to ensure that all obligations are met. Education, experience and qualifications Educated to A level standard (or equivalent.) Degree education preferred. Level 3 CII Certificate is desirable. The job holder should be willing to work towards this certificate if they do not yet have this. Likely to have at least two years experience in insurance as an underwriting technician or assistant, preferably in medical malpractice. Additional experience in commercial lines desirable. Good understanding of technical underwriting. Expert understanding of MDU operational systems, processes and data. Good technical knowledge of the detail of FCA and Lloyds minimum standards regulations. Knowledge of organisational and regulatory rules, policies, procedures.
