The Senior Construction Manager will play a pivotal role in delivering the internal fit-out of the Grade I listed Manchester Town Hall, ensuring a seamless transition and successful client handover. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a significant public sector project and leave a lasting impact on a historic building. As Senior Construction Manager, you will lead, manage and coordinate construction activities, put together Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan and advise on buildability and logistics of the schemes. This will involve the management of supply chain including surveys through to main construction on site to achieve the high standards of safety and quality expected of both Bovis and also the client team on the project. You will take responsibility for all activities in the field of construction, including the day-to‑day planning, supervision, record keeping, quality control, direction and monitoring of safe operations and construction delivery. This will also include supporting the commercial team with robust record keeping. You will ensure that the project is delivered in a safe, timely, efficient and sustainable manner, whilst achieving project targets, meeting client expectations and enhancing the reputation of the business. Your involvement will present direct contact with the decision makers within the business, offering technical knowledge, awareness, integration, guidance and advice. You will integrate in multi-disciplinary project teams, throughout the procurement and construction process to set up, procure and direct the safe, efficient installation, completion and close out of the project needs and prescribed parameters within budget and within programme. Key responsibilities: • Support planning logistics phasing of all projects., • Preconstruction development of programme; scoping and project controls set up including delivery management systems and online quality control systems., • Recruit and develop construction teams in readiness for delivery., • Lead early enabling and surveying works setting up projects ready for main contracts., • Develop and encourage an Incident and Injury Free climate on site and in the supply chain and ensure that all health and safety obligations, process and procedures are allocated to and delivered by the construction operations team., • The Senior Construction Manager is accountable for the supervision, direction and monitoring of day‑to‑day operations on site, ensuring that all contractors are coordinated and working effectively to the construction programme and detail and delivering the required quality, • Monitor the progress of construction works and amend the methodology in light of unforeseen circumstances to ensure that overall completion dates are safely met, • Develop a clear plan of action to ensure contractors adherence to the Environmental Management Plan and monitor performance, • Actively participate in all team meetings ensuring communication of changes affecting Safety, methodology or logistics, • Constantly review the build quality achieved with the team ensuring that the contract’s requirements in this regard are fully met, • Ensure build ability issues are considered and given appropriate priority at procurement stage, • Ensure accuracy of prelims with regard to safety, logistical issues and the management of environmental risks, • Produce a schedule of all statutory authorities and manage the process of engagement and notifications as required, • Support the Project/Assistant Manager to establish and manage a series of meetings with all contractors to ensure that they are fully aware of the latest design information (instructions, Request for Information answers etc.), • Responsible for pre‑planning and development of the site safety strategy, including all aspects of logistics., • In conjunction with contractors, prepare short term programme, linked to longer term deliverables, allowing contractors to plan the week ahead, • Communicate and monitor safe delivery against weekly plan, • Responsibility for demonstrating leadership, effective team working and contributing to the development of colleagues on the project, • Develop delivery metrics for all key trades packages and, working with the construction management team, ensure that actual delivery outputs are measured and reported, • Ensure that the Construction operations processes and procedures are adhered to, • Appropriate CSCS card for the role, • Professional Construction Qualifications relevant to the role, • SMSTS – 5 Day, • Have, or be working towards a related Chartership such as CIOB, • First aid at work, • Written and verbal communication to influence and build relationships, • Ability to influence and lead teams., • Ability to read and understand programmes, design drawings and details, project scopes and specifications., • Ability to influence and lead teams, • Knowledge of the construction process and construction methods including operational safety systems, • Knowledge of current construction laws, legislations, and regulations, standards and procedures., • Commercial and financial understanding in the above context – ability to contribute to value engineering as part of the design process, • contractor on projects above £30m in value, • Experience of managing field construction activities on major/complex projects, • Flexibility and openness of approach and willingness to work as a team complex construction projects, preferably involving historical buildings., • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team., • Excellent knowledge of building regulations, health and safety protocols, and historical preservation guidelines., • Proficiency in construction management software and tools for project planning and documentation., • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure., • Excellent problem‑solving and conflict resolution skills., • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a focus on meeting project deadlines., • Valid professional certifications (e.g., CSCS, SMSTS) and a clean health and safety record., • A degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
