Job Title: Hospital Housekeeper Location: Sheffield Department: Environmental Services / Housekeeping Employment Type: Temporary, full time Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays Job Summary We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Hospital Housekeeper to help maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is essential in supporting infection prevention standards and ensuring the hospital remains a safe and welcoming place for all. The successful candidate will follow established cleaning protocols and hospital policies while demonstrating professionalism, discretion, and a strong commitment to health and safety. Key Responsibilities Clean and disinfect patient rooms, operating theatres, restrooms, and public areas in line with hospital standards and infection control protocols. Perform routine floor care duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and polishing. Safely dispose of general and clinical waste, including biohazard materials, in accordance with safety guidelines. Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue in assigned areas. Follow infection prevention and control procedures to minimise the risk of cross-contamination. Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or equipment faults promptly. Operate housekeeping equipment safely and ensure it is cleaned and stored correctly. Comply with hospital policies, including confidentiality, patient privacy, and health and safety requirements. Qualifications & Experience Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred, ideally within a healthcare or clinical environment. Understanding of cleaning methods, chemicals, and infection control practices. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong attention to detail with good time management skills. Physically capable of lifting, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods. Working Conditions Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals and biohazard materials (full training and personal protective equipment provided). Rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, may be required.
