Tax Manager - Shape a New Tax TeamUp to £80,000 | City of London | Hybrid (4 days office/1 day home) | Clear Path to Director THE OPPORTUNITY A respected 5-partner practice with offices in the City and Surrey is creating a brand-new Mixed Tax Manager role. This is your chance to build and lead a tax department from the ground up, with direct reporting to the Tax Partner and a fast-track route to Directorship. No layers between Manager and Director. No politics. Just clear progression. ABOUT THE FIRM 35-person practice known for high-quality advisory work and long-standing client relationships. They take a proactive, strategic approach to tax planning, working with shareholders, directors, HNWIs, entrepreneurial businesses, and growing SMEs. Their tax offering includes personal tax, corporate tax, VAT, international tax, share schemes, SEIS/EIS, Patent Box, SDLT, and transactional advisory. THE TAX MANAGER ROLE This is a newly created position with real autonomy. You'll manage a diverse portfolio while building the tax function, mentoring staff, and shaping the department's future. PERSONAL TAX • Manage HNWIs, shareholders, directors, and complex personal tax clients, • Review returns and deliver planning across income tax, CGT, IHT, residence/domicile, • Manage corporation tax for SMEs, OMBs, and groups, • Advise on restructuring, R&D/Patent Box, SEIS/EIS, EMI schemes, international tax, and VAT, • Build and lead a new tax team from scratch, • Set standards, processes, and best practices, • Mentor junior staff and support technical development, • Act as trusted adviser, identifying tax-saving opportunities, • Deliver proactive, high-value planning, • CTA qualified, • Strong mixed tax experience in UK practice, • Confident with advisory work and complex tax issues, • Comfortable leading and developing staff, • Commercially minded with excellent communication skills, • Salary: Up to £80,000 DOE, • Clear progression: Manager to Director (no layers in between), • Hybrid working: 4 days office (City or Guildford), 1 day home, • Holiday: 23 days + bank holidays, • Work-life balance: No late nights or weekend working, • Software: IRIS for all tax compliance, • Culture: Relaxed, friendly, genuine focus on wellbeing, • Socials: Memorable summer and Christmas events You're a CTA-qualified tax professional ready for a role with real influence.
