Job Summary The Smart Building Infrastructure Technician will work as part of a dedicated on-site team responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of specialist smart building technologies across a large, operationally critical estate. The role requires strong core competencies in copper and fibre network infrastructure installation, alongside a willingness to develop skills across a range of smart building technologies, including Audio-Visual systems, Electronic Security, IoT, and wired, wireless, and mobile networks. By delivering high-quality infrastructure installations and maintaining strict health and safety standards, the technician will contribute to the successful delivery of projects on time and within budget. A strong customer service focus is essential, ensuring that client requirements are accurately interpreted and delivered. Location: London Key Tasks and Responsibilities Copper and Fibre ICT Infrastructure • Install, terminate, and test copper (Cat 5e/6/6A), fibre optic (OS1/2, OM3/4/5), and voice cabling systems., • Install, terminate, and test Electronic Security and Audio-Visual cabling infrastructure., • Conduct structured cabling testing using industry-standard test equipment and management software, ensuring compliance with manufacturer, customer, and published standards. Smart Building Technologies and Systems • Prepare, assemble, and install telecommunications cabinets and racks, either pre-built or flat-pack., • Install fixtures and fittings appropriate to the intended application., • Install containment systems safely, including tray, basket, trunking, and conduit, using appropriate tools and methods., • Install end-point devices such as:, • Electronic security devices (cameras, door hardware), • Wireless and mobile access points, • IoT sensors, • Audio-Visual equipment, • Install network infrastructure equipment in cabinets in accordance with manufacturer specifications, including servers, routers, switches, controllers, and WAN equipment., • Carry out system and equipment patching. Maintenance and Fault Finding • Support commissioning, maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis, fault rectification, decommissioning, and equipment relocation activities., • Complete accurate and timely documentation and provide appropriate certification., • Comply fully with Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and site-specific health and safety requirements., • Work from drawings, schematics, scopes, and specifications, ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974., • Take responsibility for personal health and safety and that of others affected by work activities. Person Specification • Understanding of IT network architecture, cabling types, and networking equipment., • Knowledge of copper and fibre cable testing and certification in line with industry standards (e.g. BS EN 50346)., • Awareness of access control and CCTV installation principles and standards., • Understanding of containment system installation methods., • Awareness of health and safety risks associated with cable installation and mitigation measures., • Knowledge of Working at Height regulations, including access equipment competency and inspection regimes (e.g. PASMA)., • Familiarity with IoT concepts and the impact of emerging technologies on installation and testing requirements., • Understanding of equipment rack and cabinet construction and assembly., • Awareness of the importance of accurate documentation for project completion and handover. Skills • Clear written and verbal communication skills., • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications., • Ability to follow processes, instructions, and technical standards., • Strong numeracy and literacy skills for planning and task execution., • Ability to interpret drawings and project plans., • Proficient in the use of structured cabling test equipment (e.g. OTDR, Fluke testers)., • Ability to work safely at height using appropriate access equipment., • Ability to work safely in confined spaces, following correct procedures and PPE requirements. Qualifications Essential • Valid ECS or CSCS card., • Relevant industry qualification (e.g. structured cabling or network infrastructure certification) or equivalent., • Full, clean UK driving licence. Desirable • First Aid certification., • GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English., • IPAF or PASMA certification. Essential • Minimum 3 years’ relevant practical experience in a similar role., • Proven experience installing copper and fibre ICT cabling systems., • Exposure to Audio-Visual, Electronic Security, IoT, and wired/wireless network environments. Desirable • Experience working in critical infrastructure or high-security operational environments., • Containment installation experience (conduit, basket, tray, metal and PVC). Working Hours: • Day shifts, Monday to Friday, • Flexibility for night working as required, • Overtime available subject to business needs
