    The Counter Assistant plays a vital role in the day-to-day operation of the fish and chip shop by delivering friendly, efficient, and professional customer service at the front counter. This role is responsible for accurately taking customer orders, handling payments, preparing and packaging meals, and ensuring that every customer receives their food hot, fresh, and exactly as requested. The Counter Assistant helps create a welcoming atmosphere and contributes directly to customer satisfaction and repeat business. Key Responsibilities • Greet customers promptly and courteously, creating a positive first impression., • Take food and drink orders accurately, either in person or over the phone, and confirm any special requests or dietary requirements., • Operate the till and handle cash and card payments responsibly, ensuring correct change and accurate transactions., • Package food carefully and hygienically, ensuring correct portions and presentation., • Check orders before handing them to customers to ensure accuracy and completeness., • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the counter area, including wiping surfaces and keeping displays tidy., • Assist with restocking supplies, condiments, and packaging materials as needed., • Follow food hygiene, health and safety, and company procedures at all times., • Support kitchen staff during busy periods and communicate clearly about orders and customer needs. Skills and Qualities Required • Strong communication and interpersonal skills., • Friendly, approachable, and customer-focused attitude., • Ability to work accurately under pressure during busy periods., • Basic numeracy skills for handling payments and making change., • Good attention to detail to ensure orders are correct., • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic., • Ability to work well as part of a team. Working Environment The role is fast-paced and customer-facing, often involving standing for long periods and working during busy meal times, evenings, and weekends.
