KS1 Functional Skills Tutor Required – Experience Supporting ASD learners We are seeking a dedicated and experienced teacher/tutor to provide Functional Skills support for Key Stage 1 pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The successful tutor will deliver structured, supportive lessons that promote confidence, engagement, and progress in early literacy and numeracy. This role requires a patient, adaptable professional who understands the learning needs of children with ASD and can provide a calm, consistent learning environment. Key Responsibilities: • Deliver individualised tutoring sessions tailored to the pupils’ learning profiles, • Support the development of early literacy skills, including phonics, reading, and writing, • Support early numeracy skills, including number recognition, counting, and basic maths concepts, • Use structured, engaging, and ASD-friendly teaching strategies, • Adapt teaching approaches to suit the pupils’ communication style, sensory needs, and pace of learning, • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the children to encourage engagement and confidence, • Provide brief feedback and progress updates where required Essential Requirements: • Experience supporting children in Key Stage 1 (ages 5–7), • Demonstrable experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), • Knowledge of early years / KS1 literacy and numeracy development, • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to teaching, • Ability to deliver lessons that are structured, engaging, and differentiated Desirable: • Teaching qualification or tutoring experience, • Experience using visual supports, structured learning approaches, or autism-friendly strategies, • Background in SEN education or specialist support Session Details: • Small group tutoring sessions, • Session schedule and duration to be agreed We are looking for a tutor who can provide consistent, supportive, and engaging learning opportunities that help the pupil develop essential skills while building confidence and independence.
