Job DescriptionJob Title: Staff AccountantPosition Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team. This role is integral to ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of our financial reporting. The Staff Accountant will support general ledger activities, account reconciliations, budget-to-actual analysis, and financial statement preparation across multiple entities in a dynamic and complex accounting environment. This position reports directly to a Senior Accountant and offers meaningful exposure to both nonprofit and for-profit operations. Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Close & Reporting • Execute month-end close activities, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, maintaining control logs, clearing suspense accounts, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and reviewing reporting packages., • Support year-end close processes, including posting final entries, reconciling annual activity, preparing audit schedules and workpapers, analyzing variances, and responding to auditor inquiries., • Prepare recurring financial analyses, including monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue and expense schedules.Accounting Operations, • Monitor and process departmental cost allocations, including intercompany charges and related journal entries., • Prepare and reconcile intercompany billings; collaborate with accounting partners to investigate and resolve discrepancies., • Prepare miscellaneous billings, maintain sub-ledgers, monitor outstanding balances, and reconcile cash receipts., • Reconcile monthly bank statements, perform cash proofs, and reconcile cash and investment accounts., • Review prepaid accounts and ensure accurate amortization in coordination with Accounts Payable., • Maintain fixed asset, depreciation, and amortization schedules; review and record capital purchases., • Maintain software inventory and record related accounting activity.Tax, Audit & Regulatory Support, • Prepare federal, state, and local tax and regulatory filings for nonprofit and for-profit entities, including Forms 990, 990-T, and related submissions., • Maintain comprehensive supporting documentation and workpapers for all tax filings and audits., • Process unclaimed property filings., • Assist with insurance-related accounting, reimbursements, and documentation., • Support health and welfare benefit trust reporting and annual benefit trust audits, including financial statements and tax filings., • Prepare and reconcile grants management activity and reporting.Systems & Cross-Functional Support, • Support accounting system testing across multiple modules and process system interfaces with appropriate reconciliations., • Provide responsive accounting support to internal stakeholders and answer finance-related inquiries as needed.Essential Qualifications, • Strong general ledger accounting experience with hands-on involvement in month-end close., • Solid understanding of intercompany accounting, billings, and reconciliations., • Experience supporting audits, regulatory filings, and tax compliance—preferably within healthcare or nonprofit environments., • Proficiency in accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and financial accounting principles.Preferred Experience & Education, • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience required; 7 years preferred., • Associate’s Degree in Accounting or a related field required.
