The business supports complex government programs across multiple contract structures and operates within a highly compliance-driven environment where financial accuracy, operational execution, and audit readiness are critical. With increasing program activity and continued organizational growth, they are expanding their accounting leadership capability to support financial operations, government contract accounting, and ongoing process improvement initiatives. This is a business where accounting operates closely with program leadership, contracts, supply chain, and executive stakeholders, giving strong visibility across the wider organization and genuine influence on operational decision-making. The environment is hands-on, collaborative, and well suited to someone who enjoys owning processes, improving systems, and operating within a growing mid-market GovCon environment. THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER ROLE This is a hands-on accounting leadership role focused on supporting day-to-day accounting operations within a regulated government contracting environment. You will work closely with finance leadership and operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with FAR, CAS, and government contracting requirements. The role combines technical accounting expertise with operational ownership across general ledger activities, project accounting, indirect rates, audit support, and financial close processes. You will play a key role in maintaining accounting accuracy, supporting compliance activities, improving processes, and ensuring financial operations continue to scale effectively alongside programme growth. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Managing day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, billing, and cash applications, • Leading month-end and year-end close processes, • Preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, • Supporting internal financial reporting and balance sheet integrity, • Maintaining accurate job cost accounting across multiple government contract types, • Supporting indirect rate calculations, cost pools, and project reporting activities, • Ensuring compliance with FAR Part 31, CAS, and company accounting policies, • Supporting DCAA and DCMA audit requests and documentation preparation, • Assisting with incurred cost submissions and audit-ready workpapers, • Reconciling project ledgers to the general ledger and supporting EAC processes, • Supporting ERP administration and accounting system data integrity, • Identifying opportunities for process improvement, workflow optimization, and stronger internal controls, • Partnering closely with program management, contracts, finance, and supply chain teams ACCOUNTING MANAGER ESSENTIAL SKILLS • 5–10+ years’ experience within accounting, government contracting, or regulated finance environments, • Strong technical accounting experience within GovCon / defense contracting environments, • Experience leading month-end close and general ledger accounting activities, • Strong understanding of job cost accounting and project accounting principles, • Experience supporting indirect rate structures and cost pools, • Familiarity with FAR Part 31 cost allowability principles and CAS compliance, • Experience supporting DCAA and DCMA audit activities, • Experience preparing audit documentation and supporting financial compliance requirements, • Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar GovCon ERP systems, • Strong Excel and financial reporting skills, • Ability to operate within a hands-on, fast-paced mid-market environment NICE TO HAVE • CPA or CMA certification, • Experience supporting incurred cost submissions, • Experience with EAC forecasting and ASC 606 revenue recognition, • Exposure to forward pricing rate proposals, • Experience supporting process improvement or ERP enhancement initiatives, • Prior experience within space, aerospace, or defense organizations TO BE CONSIDERED Please either apply by clicking online or emailing me directly at .
