Job DescriptionSalary: $33.6538 / hr Digital Communications & Design Lead Social Justice Learning Institute (SJLI) Reports to: Communications & Brand Strategy Manager Location: Hybrid Inglewood, CA (Office Days: Tuesday) Status: Full-Time, Exempt Compensation: TBD Position Summary The Digital Communications & Design Lead is responsible for translating SJLIs stories, campaigns, and organizational messaging into visually compelling and platform-ready communications across digital channels. Working closely with the Storytelling & Content Lead and Communications & Brand Strategy Manager, this role ensures that SJLIs communications are consistently presented through strong visual design, dynamic digital storytelling, and effective platform distribution. The Digital Communications & Design Lead manages the organizations digital presence, including social media platforms, website updates, digital campaigns, and analytics tracking. This role also serves as the primary designer for the communications team, developing graphics, layouts, and visual assets that reflect SJLIs brand identity and enhance the reach of the organizations storytelling. The ideal candidate is both a creative visual communicator and a highly organized digital strategist who understands how design, storytelling, and platform distribution work together to amplify social change efforts. Key Responsibilities Digital Platform Management • Manage SJLIs digital presence across social media platforms including but not limited to Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, X, Fanbase, Substack and emerging channels., • Implement and manage the communications content calendar by scheduling and publishing content developed by the communications team., • Monitor engagement across digital platforms and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries as appropriate., • Track platform performance metrics and provide regular reports that inform digital strategy and campaign effectiveness., • Identify digital trends and opportunities that can strengthen SJLIs online presence and community engagement. Visual Design & Brand Implementation • Serve as the communications teams primary designer, creating visual assets that support SJLIs campaigns, storytelling, and organizational messaging., • Design graphics for social media posts, campaigns, reports, presentations, event promotions, and digital storytelling initiatives., • Ensure that all visual materials align with SJLIs brand identity, visual standards, and messaging frameworks., • Develop and maintain visual templates that help ensure consistency across communications materials., • Collaborate with the Communications & Brand Strategy Manager to evolve the organizations visual presence as SJLI continues to grow. Website Management • Manage and maintain the SJLI website, ensuring that content, visuals, and messaging reflect current organizational priorities., • Upload and format stories, updates, and campaign materials developed by the communications team., • Maintain the organizations homepage and key program pages to ensure they reflect the most current initiatives and messaging., • Ensure that the website remains visually consistent, user-friendly, and aligned with SJLIs brand identity., • Coordinate updates to website forms, campaign landing pages, and other digital engagement tools. Digital Campaign Implementation • Support the implementation of communications campaigns by translating campaign messaging into digital assets and platform-ready content., • Develop social media graphics, digital storytelling packages, and visual content that support fundraising, public awareness, and organizational initiatives., • Coordinate with the Storytelling & Content Lead to transform narrative content into visually engaging digital formats., • Ensure campaign materials are published across appropriate digital platforms in alignment with communications timelines. Multimedia Content Adaptation • Work with the Storytelling & Content Lead to adapt captured stories, photos, and videos into platform-specific formats for digital storytelling., • Edit and format multimedia content for use across social media, website storytelling, and campaign communications., • Ensure visual and multimedia content reflects SJLIs brand identity and storytelling approach., • Support the development of short-form and long-form video content that highlights organizational work, youth voices, and community initiatives. Digital Asset Management & Analytics • Maintain organized archives of photos, graphics, and visual content for future communications use., • Develop systems for managing digital assets, including tagging, cataloging, and storing visual content., • Track digital performance metrics including engagement, reach, and growth across platforms., • Provide insights and recommendations to the communications team based on analytics and performance data. Collaboration with Communications Team • Work closely with the Storytelling & Content Lead to translate narrative content into visual storytelling assets., • Collaborate with the Communications & Brand Strategy Manager to ensure digital communications align with overall brand and messaging strategies., • Support the communications team in implementing campaigns, storytelling initiatives, and organizational announcements., • Contribute to communications planning discussions by identifying digital opportunities that strengthen audience engagement. Qualifications • Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent experience., • Minimum of 35 years of experience in digital communications, graphic design, or digital marketing., • Strong graphic design skills and experience creating visual content for digital platforms., • Experience managing social media platforms and implementing digital communications strategies., • Experience managing and updating websites using common content management systems., • Proficiency with design and editing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar platforms., • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple digital projects simultaneously., • Commitment to social justice, equity, and community-centered communications., • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and contribute to a fast-paced communications environment. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working within nonprofit, advocacy, or youth-serving organizations., • Experience producing visual content that supports storytelling and public engagement., • Familiarity with analytics tools and digital performance reporting., • Experience supporting multimedia storytelling initiatives including video editing., • Comfort working in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities. However, this role requires regular travel within Los Angeles County for meetings, youth events, and community engagements.
